New Video Shows Magical Xbox One & Windows 10 Streaming

New Video Shows Magical Xbox One & Windows 10 Streaming is a post by Travis Pope from Gotta Be Mobile.

Being able to play Halo 5: Guardians on their PC isn’t something that gamers necessarily asked for in droves. That being said, they will once they see the game featured in a new promotional video for Microsoft’s Windows 10 operating system.

Microsoft showed off Halo 5: Guardians streaming to a PC running its Windows 10 operating system in a video for its Windows 10 operating system that’s coming later this year. Besides including Halo 5: Guardians in the lightning fast demo, Microsoft also gives users a look at Fable Legends on Windows 10 in a second highlight reel.

In the video we see someone playing what appears to be Halo 5: Guardians multiplayer on their Xbox One. A few seconds later the video is shown flying through the air to a Windows 10 PC that’s equipped with an Xbox One controller. We don’t learn anything about how video game streaming from the Xbox One will work when Windows 10 arrives. Thankfully, Microsoft also showed off Xbox One game streaming to those in attendance at its BUILD 2015 developer conference, including The Verge’s Tom Warren.

Warren describes Xbox on Windows 10 streaming is being as “awesome” as he’d hoped it would be. Xbox One game streaming is baked into an updated version of the Xbox companion app for Windows 10. Users simply open the app on their Windows PC and let it connect over their local network.

Users don’t have to go to their Xbox One before they start a game streaming session. Instead, the new Windows 10 Xbox one app lets them browse their game selection directly from their PC. There’s a game streaming option for each title. Microsoft also allows users to browse the entire Xbox One directly from the Xbox app for Windows 10. There users can launch any of their console’s apps. Microsoft hasn’t yet said whether developers will be able to disable game streaming for specific titles since being able to stream from the Xbox One might encourage users to only buy a single copy of a game that’s available on both Windows 10 and Xbox One.

The two big caveats for streaming on the Xbox One are huge. First, Microsoft is limiting the app to local networks at launch. That means that Xbox One owners can’t stream their games from their console when they aren’t home. That’s a shame as Sony’s Remote Play feature for the PS4 does allow users to play games from their console when they aren’t home. Microsoft told The Verge that it’s looking at adding streaming when users aren’t home, but doesn’t have much to say about it right now.

The second video Microsoft posted is more of a granular look at what it’s working on for the entire Windows 10 experience. It’s this one that includes some of the new Windows 10 apps in action and a look at Fable Legends running on a Windows 10 PC. Fable Legends will mark Microsoft’s big return to PC gaming development. The game is cross-platform, meaning users can play it on their Windows PCs with other Xbox Live users without streaming – unlike Halo 5: Guardians.

According to Microsoft, members of the Windows Insider Program can expect Xbox One game streaming to arrive as an update for the Xbox One app sometime soon. That makes sense as the Xbox app for Windows 10 already has many of the features Microsoft promised back at its Windows 10 Media Briefing in January. The app already has screenshot and video recording capabilities. It can send messages and track Xbox Live Achievements too.

Microsoft plans to launch Windows 10 as a free update for personal computers running Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 this summer.  Presumably, this new Xbox app will replace the Games hub that’s available in Windows 8.1 today.

Apple Watch Tattoo Problems Causing Issues for Inked Users

Apple Watch Tattoo Problems Causing Issues for Inked Users is a post by Craig Lloyd from Gotta Be Mobile.

If you have tattoos on your wrists and own an Apple Watch, it’s possible that the experience isn’t going too well for you.

Many users who bear tattoos have been complaining about the Apple Watch’s wrist detection not working properly because of the changes to their skin, and Apple has confirmed this on its support website, where it says that “permanent or temporary changes to your skin, such as some tattoos, can also impact heart rate sensor performance. The ink, pattern, and saturation of some tattoos can block light from the sensor, making it difficult to get reliable readings.”

Of course, this is referring to the Apple Watch’s heart rate sensor that’s a part of the device’s health and fitness tracking suite.

These Apple Watch tattoo problems for those who want to work out with an Apple Watch but have tattoos on their wrists. However, not all hope is lost, as Apple suggests getting an external heart rate monitor that you strap to your chest and connect to the Apple Watch over Bluetooth.

Apple-watch-1

One thing to be aware of is that the Apple Watch will usually still work over tattoos that are a lighter color, but tattoos with darker colors, such as black, red, blue, etc. are said to be a problem for the Apple Watch’s wrist detection.

Of course, this isn’t the only Apple Watch problem that users have stumbled upon. There are a handful of issues that the device is having, including Bluetooth connectivity problems, battery life concerns, and even scratches that show up fairly easily on higher-end models.

The 316L stainless steel used on the mid-tier Apple Watch is actually softer and more prone to scratches than the Apple Watch Sport’s aluminum casing, which we can’t say is too surprising, as stainless steel in general is commonly known to scratch under even light wear and tear circumstances. If you want proof, just take a look at your old iPod that has scratches all over the shiny black plate. That’s also made out of stainless steel, just like the Apple Watch.

Taking a rag with some metal polish can fix it right up, though, and it only takes a couple of minutes and just a little bit of elbow grease.

Apple announced the Apple Watch back in September at its iPhone 6 event and officially released the device last week. There are three different models of the Apple Watch with prices starting at $349 for the entry-level Apple Watch Sport, and then the stainless steel Apple Watch starting at $549, with the gold Apple Watch Edition priced at $10,000.

Apple-Watch

Unfortunately, if you’re planning to go to the Apple Store to buy an Apple Watch, you’ll need to rethink that strategy, as Apple has confirmed that you will only be able to order the Apple Watch online, as in-store availability won’t be a possibility until June. In a memo that was released to Apple Store employees earlier this month says that the Apple Watch won’t be in stock at retail locations throughout the month of May. Instead, buyers will be prompted to go to Apple’s website to order one for the time being.

For now, those who want to try out the Apple Watch before they buy it can schedule an Apple Store try-on appointment online, and once they decide which model they want, buyers can go online again to order.

While the Apple Watch is seeing strong demand and short supply, you may be one of the lucky ones if you pre-ordered. The Apple Watch was put up for pre-order earlier this month, and many who ordered one were given ship dates as late as June, but it’s still possible that these back-orders could still ship ahead of time.

How to Update the Xbox One

How to Update the Xbox One is a post by Travis Pope from Gotta Be Mobile.

Most expected that Microsoft would keep its Xbox One entertainment console current with updates and software changes even after it was available. What no one was expecting was Microsoft’s constant iteration on the console. Shortly after launch Microsoft promised that new updates would be available each month and it’s delivered. Once almost every calendar month Microsoft has added a feature or made a change to the software that powers the Xbox One experience.

How to Set Xbox One Backgrounds (18)

If this was the Xbox 360, these updates would be a painful experience. That console forced users to update the moment they connected to Xbox Live. The Xbox One does make software updates mandatory, but with the right settings, you shouldn’t find yourself waiting to download Xbox One updates when you’re trying to play a game or watch a television show.

Here’s how to update the Xbox One manually, and how to configure your console so that large software updates download to your console automatically.

Starting Updates Manually

When it first launched Microsoft managed software updates on the Xbox One itself. If there was an update, you’d be prompted to download it, but there was no button or manual trigger to do so. When you were prompted to download an update and refused your console just stayed off Xbox Live until you were ready to download the update. Thankfully, subsequent updates to Xbox One have fixed that problem. If you have a Kinect sensor you can skip the first three steps of this process by saying “Xbox, go to Settings.”

Turn on your Xbox One and go the My Games and Apps area.

How to Update the Xbox One (1)

Select the Apps area on the top right side of your screen.

How to Update the Xbox One (3)

Use your joystick to browse the list of apps on the right side of your screen. Select the Settings app using the A button on your controller.

How to Update the Xbox One (5)

Use your joystick to highlight the System area and select it.

How to Update the Xbox One (6)

On the right edge of the System app is a button that tells you whether your console has a software update or not. If there’s no update available you won’t be able to select it.

How to Update the Xbox One (7)

When there is a software update the button is selectable, allowing you to press A on your controller and start the software update process.

Downloading Updates Automatically

Being able to download updates manually is great, but most people want the benefits of a software upgrade while not having it interrupt their lives. The Xbox One has silent software updates that download in the background and install themselves when the console isn’t being used. This is tied to a feature Microsoft calls Instant-On mode.

Once you turn on Instant On, your system doesn’t completely turn itself off. Instead of completely shutting down and forcing you to start the console every time you’d like to game, Instant On keeps some parts of the Xbox One’s software running. This allows the console to update apps and games without you ever realizing that they needed to be upgraded in the first place. The system does the same thing for Xbox One software updates. Instant On is the Xbox equivalent to pressing the button on your smartphone to put it to sleep instead of completely shutting it down.

Go back to the Settings app from the My Games and Apps area.

How to Update the Xbox One (2)

Highlight and Select Power & Startup it’s at the button of the settings app, in the middle area just beside Devices & Accessories.

How to Update the Xbox One (8)

Here you have the granular controls for your Xbox One’s power. You can turn the console completely off from here, or force it to restart if you have any issues. There’s also a toggle for how long the console sits idle before it turns itself to save power. Ignore those. Instead, focus on the Power Options area in the middle of your screen.

If you’re sure you’d like software updates to download automatically then you’ll need to switch your Power mode from Energy-Saving to Instant On. Again, Energy Saver means you won’t have to worry about the Xbox One increasing your power bill by a very minuscule amount.

How to Update the Xbox One (9)

Select the Power Mode option and switch it from Energy-Saving to Instant On.

For now on your Xbox One will automatically download software and game updates without having to manually trigger them, which can definitely waste a lot of your valuable gaming and entertainment time. You’ll notice your console is ready to play games or open an app a lot faster than it did before if you had Energy Saver enabled. If you have a Kinect sensor Microsoft lets you turn on your Xbox One by just saying “Xbox On.”

Though your console is running, you shouldn’t notice any kind of fan noise coming from it. The power button and Xbox button on your controller won’t glow when your console is in Instant On mode either.

LG G4 Release Teased in 4 New Videos

jeudi 30 avril 2015

LG G4 Release Teased in 4 New Videos is a post by Cory Gunther from Gotta Be Mobile.

Now that the all-new LG G4 smartphone has been officially announced and is coming soon, we’ve got our hands-on it and given you our initial impressions, and now LG is busy teasing the G4 release ahead of the rumored late May and early June release date. Today they released four new videos showing off the stunning new phone.

Last year the LG G3 was announced in late May, and arrived over one month later sometime in July for smartphone buyers around the United States. This year they’ve announced it over a month sooner, and hope to get it on the market in time to compete with the new Galaxy S6 and HTC One M9.

The impressive looking LG G4 comes with a stunning 5.5-inch HD display, a better camera, and some genuine leather backs that look and feel amazing. LG wants to share its device with the world, and are doing so ahead of the release with the four brand new commercials embedded below for potential buyers.

Before the unveiling on Tuesday LG had already released information about the new 5.5-inch Quantum 2560 x 1440 Quad-HD (2k) display, talked about the new 16 megapixel f1.8 camera lens, and even teased the six new genuine leather hand-stitched leather backs.

And while a few questions remain regarding where and when we can get one, and if it’ll come in leather from US carriers, below are some videos to give you a better look at the phone before it arrives. The new commercials will likely be shown around the globe and here in the US. They’re 15 seconds, or 30 seconds, and highlight key selling points. Things like the camera, display, and the leather. Check them out below.

Here we see the stunning new vegetable-tanned brown leather back for the new LG G4. This process takes 12 weeks to make each backplate, and will be well worth it once they become available. We’re hearing some carriers will have leather options on contract, and LG may charge upwards of $40-50 for the other colors on their own website, but we’ll have to wait and see.

The two videos above highlight the powerful new 16 megapixel camera with an f1.8 aperture lens that’s capable of some impressive low-light photography, shutter speed options for long exposure, and much more. Then we’re also getting a look at the Black leather option. It comes in three plastic colors, and six genuine leather backs.

Then last but certainly not least is a 30 second clip showing off the improved 5.5-inch Quantum (Quad-HD) display inside of the phone. It still features sleek bezels, and now has a slight curve to protect the screen if sitting face-down on a table. The screen is leaps and bounds better than the LG G3, brighter, has better colors, but still may not be able to match the Galaxy S6. We’ll have more details on the screen in the coming weeks.

Again, the all-new LG G4 was announced this week and is coming to all five major carriers in the United States, and maybe more. Those being Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint and US Cellular. We’ll be learning more about pricing, availability, leather options and more in the next few weeks as the end of May nears. We’re hearing early June is the carrier release date, but T-Mobile will likely launch it a week early just as they did with the Galaxy S6 and HTC One M9. Stay tuned.
