How to Install Android 5.1.1 Lollipop Right Now is a post by Cory Gunther from Gotta Be Mobile.

This guide will show you how to install the brand new Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update so that you can try out Google’s latest version of Android right now on your Nexus 7 or Nexus 10 tablets.

In October Google finally unveiled Android 5.0 Lollipop, and since then we’ve seen countless quick and small updates aimed at addressing many critical bugs and issues in the release. In March Android 5.1 arrived to fix problems in Android 5.0.2 Lollipop, and now after weeks of rumors Google’s released Android 5.1.1 Lollipop for the Nexus 7 WiFi (2012 & 2013) as well as the Nexus 10.

Yesterday Google released the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update in the form of factory images, and over the air updates should begin arriving soon. However, if you want to get it right now, here’s how to do so. You’ll need the newly updated factory images provided by Google to install on your device. In addition you will need to install the Android SDK or at least ADB and Fastboot. Below we’ll go over all the details in a simple fashion for those who’d like to try Android 5.1.1 Lollipop on their tablet right now.

Nexus-7-Lollipop

Android 5.1 Lollipop promised to deliver tons of under the hood tweaks that completely improved the Android Lollipop experience, and it did exactly that but didn’t fix the famed memory leak bug. The initial Lollipop release was riddled with small problems, app crashes, and instability, and Google’s slowly made it an all around better experience. Android 5.1 saved the original Nexus 7, and 5.1.1 should make things even better.

The Android 5.1.1 Lollipop System Image is a download that contains all the files needed to install a stock version of Android Lollipop on the Nexus 7 (2012), the Nexus 7 2013 (WiFi) and the Nexus 10. Currently those are the only 5.1.1 images available, but more will be released over the coming days. This is essentially everything that you would download as an over-the-air update for regular Android updates. However, this makes the phone stock like it was out of the box (aka factory image) and will wipe all user data and settings. Repeat, this will erase all user data.

If you’d rather not wait for the official update for your device in the coming weeks, you can get it right now by following the steps below. It’s worth waiting for average users, but if you’re up for the challenge, here’s all the details. This guide will show you how to install the latest Nexus Android 5.1 Lollipop update early. This is something you can do from Windows, Mac, Linux or ChromeOS.

How to Install ADB on Windows, Mac, Ubuntu & ChromeOS

Before you can install the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop release to Nexus devices you will need to install ADB and Fastboot to your computer. This is a program that runs on your PC/Mac to connect to your Android device through a USB cable and flash the Android software to your device.

Installing ADB and Fastboot is one of the most annoying parts of installing Android factory images, but several new tools make it incredibly easy.

How to Install ADB on Windows

Use this tool to install ADB and Fastboot on Windows in seconds.

If you are using a Windows machine, including up to Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 you can use the 15 second adb installer to streamline the process.

Download the ADB installer for Windows. Find the file, right-click on it and choose Run as Administrator. When prompted you need to give the app access to run as an administrator. After the app launches type a Y and enter to select yes to Install ADB & Fastboot, to intsll ADB/Fastboot systemwide and to install Drivers. When a new window pops up follow the steps to install the drivers.

After this is installed you should be ready to install the Android 5.1.1 update on your Nexus smartphone or tablet.

How to Install ADB on Mac, Linux & ChromeOS

This tool installs ADB on Mac, Linux and ChromeOS easily.Nexus Tools makes it easy to install ADB on a Mac, Linux or even ChromeOS. All you need to do is open Terminal on your computer and past in the code from xda. Open terminal by going to search, and simply typing Terminal and opening the program.

This will install ADB and Fastboot on Mac, Linux and Chrome OS without the need to do anything else. It’s extremely easy, and avoids all the ADB package mess that typically takes much longer to complete.

After the script completes you can type ADB or Fastboot to start running either program. This is where you’ll need to be to flash the new Android 5.1.1 image on your device. Remember to head into settings > developer options and enable USB Debugging first.

How to Install Android 5.1 Right Now

The first thing you need to do is download the just released final Android 5.1.1 Lollipop System Images. You can find them at the links below. Only a few Nexus devices have been posted, but we’re expecting Google to push over the air updates out and release more factory images soon. Hopefully for the poor Nexus 9 that’s stuck on Android 5.0.1 Lollipop.

Google has yet to post the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 6, or even the Nexus 9 images, but expect to them to arrive soon. The Nexus 9 is the only device released in the last two years that hasn’t seen an update past Android 5.0.1, and something needs to be done about that. We’ve seen hints of the Nexus 9 running 5.1.1 Lollipop, but it has yet to be released.

You will need to unzip these files to a folder you can access, we just unzipped it to our Mac desktop. After you have the Android 5.1.1 system image unzipped you will need to find this folder and type cmd into the address bar on Windows, or open terminal and change the folder to this folder on Mac, Linux or Chrome OS. Reminder, if you’re on a MAC you need to make sure terminal is running inside the folder you just unzipped.

If your Nexus 7 or Nexus 10 is not bootloader unlocked you should do that first. We could not install the Android 5.1.1 System image with the device locked. This will wipe your tablet and erase all user data, settings, pictures, etc.

Open a Terminal in the adb folder and type the command below then hit enter.

adb reboot bootloader

In Fastboot type:

fastboot oem unlock

Then hit enter. Follow the on-screen instructions and choose to erase the device. Wait a minute or so for it to unlock. This removes everything on your device.

You can install the Android L Beta using these directions.

Flash the Image

Now open the folder containing the unzipped Android 5.1.1 System Image file you downloaded. Type cmd in the address bar. Type the following commands and hit enter. On a Mac you can open Terminal in the folder by enabling terminal shortcuts in settings. This is key for Mac users. Head to System Preferences and select Keyboard > Shortcuts > Services. Find “New Terminal at Folder” in the settings and click the box. Now when you’re in Finder, just right-click a folder and you’re shown the open to open Terminal. Or just do it from the desktop where you unzipped the Factory image as shown below.

Screen Shot 2014-10-17 at 11.52.31 AM

Once in terminal simply copy and paste the commands below to install the Android 5.1.1 update to your Nexus 7 or 10.

flash-all.bat

This will flash all of the needed files. If you are on a Mac or other computer you will need to type;

sudo ./flash-all.sh

This will push all of the files to your Nexus 7 (2012 or 2013) or Nexus 10. The files will start pushing and installing and your Nexus device may reboot and you will see an Android figure and then a moving Android logo. The logo screen may stay for a long time. Don’t unplug the device. This may last 10 minutes or longer. When Android prompts you to complete setup you can unplug the Nexus. It took less than two minutes for us.

When the device finishes you can enter your information and start using Android 5.1.1 Lollipop today on your device. Give the new Tap n Go (automatically restore) a try using NFC to automatically restore and and all apps, settings, accounts and more from another device. It works like a charm. Enjoy!

For those who’d rather not toy around with all this stuff, an over the air (OTA) update should begin by the end of the day or hopefully sometime this weekend. If this is all a bit daunting, just wait for the over the air notification to arrive in the coming days or weeks. As a reminder, the above process will wipe all data from your device. So waiting for the over the air update may be a good route for average users. Also, this will be a staggered rollout, so the update may not hit all devices right away. Be patient.

4 Nexus Android 5.1.1 Update Details Emerge

4 Nexus Android 5.1.1 Update Details Emerge is a post by Adam Mills from Gotta Be Mobile.

Google’s new Android 5.1.1 update is finally starting to pick up steam as new Android 5.1.1 release details have landed for owners of the Nexus 7 2012, Nexus 2013 and Nexus 10.

Last month, Google confirmed plans to roll out an Android 5.1.1 update, a small bug fixer aimed at lingering Android 5.0 Lollipop problems. The company didn’t roll out the red carpet or issue an announcement. Instead, the company confirmed the update’s presence with a roll out for the Nexus Player. Today, the Nexus Player Android 5.1.1 update has finally been joined by several new Android 5.1.1 updates.

Google has finally confirmed Android 5.1.1 updates for the Nexus 7 and Nexus 10. The company has posted factory images for the Nexus 7 2012 Wi-Fi, the Nexus 7 2013 Wi-Fi, and the Nexus 10. All of the updates feature Google’s LMY47V build and all three of them are expected to feature the bug fixes that were confirmed last month.

Android 5.1.1 isn’t a huge update, just a shade over 13MB in size, but it should alleviate some of the issues that have been plaguing Nexus users in the weeks after the Android 5.1 update’s arrival.

Nexus7-5-1

As of right now, the Nexus 10 Android 5.1.1 update appears to be the only firmware rolling out Over-the-Air. The Nexus 7 2012 and Nexus 7 2013 Android 5.1.1 updates will likely start rolling out soon given their presence in the AOSP. OTAs tend to start shortly after Google posts the factory images in the Android Open Source Project.

Google’s new Android 5.1.1 releases probably won’t finish up anytime soon. The company is well known for its long drawn out roll out process and this trio of Android 5.1.1 updates will probably take a week or more to complete. Google’s Android roll outs are random and unpredictable and Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 users need only to check a couple of times a day for the update. Once it’s available, the update will prompt the download and installation process.

Nexus-7-Lollipop

With the Android 5.1.1 release picking up steam, it should only be a matter of time before Google pushes out Android 5.1.1 updates for some of its other Nexus devices. The company has all but confirmed Android 5.1.1 updates for the Nexus 9 and Nexus 5 and the Nexus 5 Android 5.1.1 update in particular is expected to fix at least one glaring problem.

Nexus 5 users have been complaining about a faulty camera application. According to some owners, the stock camera app crashes when third-party applications like Facebook attempt to access it. Google’s included a fix for the problem in the Android 5.1.1 update though again, it’s still not clear when the Nexus 5 Android 5.1.1 update will roll out. Google tends to slow roll its upgrades so it could be days or even weeks before we see it issued.

Android 5.1.1 updates for the Nexus 4 and Nexus 6 remain unconfirmed though there is a good chance that Google shoots this new update out to all Nexus users given the caliber of the bug fixes on board. Nexus users of all shapes and sizes have been complaining about problems for several weeks and Google’s clearly looking to stabilize the software as we push deeper into the year.

Nexus-9

Owners of Google’s other Nexus smartphones and tablets will want to keep an eye on the company’s AOSP for release details. It’s clear that Google won’t be announcing each individual upgrade. Instead, it will let its OTAs and factory images do all of the talking for it.

It’s not clear if Google plans to roll out any more Android 5.0 Lollipop updates between now and the arrival of its next major Android upgrade. It’s not clear what’s next for Nexus users but with Google I/O just a few short weeks away, we could find out about the future sooner rather than later. Google I/O 2015 kicks off on May 28th at the Moscone Center in San Francisco.

Mayweather vs Pacquiao: 9 Things Viewers Need to Know

Mayweather vs Pacquiao: 9 Things Viewers Need to Know is a post by Josh Smith from Gotta Be Mobile.

It’s finally time for the Mayweather vs Pacquiao fight. Fans on both sides of the ring and boxing fans in general are eager to see what is being billed as the fight of the century as Floyd Mayweather Jr. takes on Manny Pacquiao in Las Vegas on Saturday May 2nd. Here is the essential information that viewers need to know about watching Mayweather vs Pacquiao and why you won’t be able to find a free Mayweather vs Pacquiao stream for your iPhone or iPad.

Even with HBO Now and Sling TV options delivering a lot of content and the PS4 offering live events for many boxing and UFC matches the places you can watch the Mayweather Pacquiao fight is more limited than most other sporting events.

Read: HBO Now: 5 Things to Know Before You Subscribe

Part of this is the massive payout associated with the fight and the tight grip that HBO and Showtime have over the PPV distribution. You don’t need a HBO subscription to watch the fight, but you will end up paying for it unless you switch to DISH or get one of the few deals. This is only the second time that HBO and Showtime teamed up for a PPV offer, due to the competing contracts that Mayweather and Pacquiao signed.

Here’s everything you need to know about watching the Mayweather vs Pacquiao fight, what it will cost you and the lengths that Pay Per View goes through to prevent free online streams and bars only paying $100 to stream it to the masses.

Mayweather vs Pacquiao Start Time

Even though the fighting starts around 6PM Eastern with several undercards, the official start time of the Mayweather vs Pacquiao fight is 9PM Eastern / 6 PM Pacific.

This includes the boxers walking to the ring and other showmanship tasks, so the first punch may come a bit later. You should be tuned in well before this and if you are buying the pay per view, don’t wait until the last-minute.

What Channel is Mayweather vs Pacquiao On?

Although the Mayweather vs Pacquiao fight is on HBO and Showtime PPV, this is not the channel that you need to view to watch the fight.

The Mayweather vs Pacquiao channel will vary from one network to the next. Here is the channel you need to tune to on major providers. You can also order the fight online with your cable or satellite provider to avoid any hassles of using your TV for the purchase.

You can search Pay Per View on your cable box or satellite receiver to fidn the right channel on your TV and provider.

Mayweather vs Pacquiao PPV Price

The Mayweather vs Pacquiao price is an astonishing $99.99 for the HD version. You can save $10 and buy it in SD, but that is not a deal when you consider how much better HD video looks. If you own a HDTV, it is a good idea to spend the extra $10 to get the fight in HD.

Mayweather vs Pacquiao Pay Per View Deals

There are two Mayweather vs Pacquiao pay per view deals that can save you $50 to $100. If you want to watch the Mayweather vs Pacquiao fight free you can switch to DISH and sign a two-year contract. This expires today and it may be too late to get the installation set up depending on when you read this.

The next option is to buy a lot of Tecate beer. Tecate is the official beer of the fight and they offer a mail in rebate to give fans $15, $30 or $50 back if they buy one, two or three cases of Tecate and the fight. There are mail in rebates at stores selling Tecate — so make sure you pick up the form if you want this deal.

Mayweather vs Pacquiao Online Streaming is Out

Normally with a major event there is a source where you can find an online stream for free, even if it is an illegal stream. This time you won’t be as lucky or at least have an easy time finding it.

TorrentFreak reports that HBO and Showtime already filed suit against two sites that were preparing to let users,” Watch Mayweather vs Pacquiao Online free.”

One of the places advertising an illegal free Mayweather vs Pacquiao live stream took down the advertisement and with a lawsuit already filed don’t expect plentiful options to show up this weekend.

Where to Watch Mayweather vs Pacquiao

If you do plan to go out to watch the Mayweather vs Pacquiao fight you can find it at some Buffalo Wild Wings locations, but not at all of them.

You can watch the fight at some B-Dubs locations.

You can watch the fight at some B-Dubs locations.

Some other bars will show the fight but they must pay $5,000 or more for the privilege and there are people out looking to find bars that only pay the $100 pay per view price. Expect to pay a cover charge at most bars of $20 or more, plus the food and drinks you will consume.

You can check which Buffalo Wild Wings locations will show the fight and search for “Where to watch the Mayweather vs Pacquiao fight” in your city for a list of bars and other venues where you can go to see the match.

Mayweather vs Pacquiao Replay

The Mayweather vs Pacquiao fight should arrive on HBO and Showtime about a week after the live fight as the end cap of the Mayweather vs Pacquiao documentary that HBO and Showtime are airing.

This is not as exciting as watching it live, but there should be options to see the fight and the highlights soon after the match is over if you don’t want to spend the $99.99 to watch live.

Mayweather vs Pacquiao on HBO Go & HBO Now

HBO Now and HBO Go offer a lot of content and even some great boxing matches that you can watch right now, but you will not be able to watch the Mayweather vs Pacquiao bought on HBO go or HBO Now.

Watch previews and past fights on HBO Go.

Watch previews and past fights on HBO Go.

This is a dual PPV event with Showtime and that company is not set up to offer this to users live. Plus the $99.99 price and the hype surrounding the match makes this a non-starter on HBO.

You can watch previews and The Best of Manny Pacquiao on HBO go and HBO Now right now.

Mayweather vs Pacquiao on PS4

Don't expect to watch Mayweather vs Pacquiao on PS4 or PS3.

Don’t expect to watch Mayweather vs Pacquiao on PS4 or PS3.

Another popular question is if you can watch the Mayweather fight on the PS4 or PS3. Sony’s Live Events Viewer app offers a lot of fights and other events, but there is no listing for this match as of 11AM on Friday May 1st.

At this time you should not expect this to change. You will need to order form a cable or satellite provider or look for a bar to watch the fight.

Surprise Star Wars Disney Infinity 3.0 Revealed

Surprise Star Wars Disney Infinity 3.0 Revealed is a post by Travis Pope from Gotta Be Mobile.

Disney Infinity, the game that takes characters from around the Disney universe and allows players to drop them into a sandbox using a small figurine, is expanding even more than previously believed. Overnight an e-commerce website revealed a Disney Infinity Star Wars Starter pack for Disney Infinity 3.0.

disney infinity 3.0 starter set

Details about the new Star Wars set for Disney Infinity 3.0 were found at Saturn, a popular online German retailer. The set in question isn’t just a normal figurine pack for the game, but a complete Starter set that comes with a copy of Disney Infinity 3.0. Included in every Disney Infinity Star pack thus far has been two figures to get users started in the game. The Star Wars Disney Infinity 3.0 Starter Pack is no different. It comes with Ashoka and Anakin Skywaker, two characters last seen in Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

The website leak lists the Star Wars Disney Infinity 3.0 Starter Pack for 69.99 euros. That roughly translates to around $79. The site also lists the Star Wars Disney Infinity 3.0 Starter Pack as being available for shipping this coming August, which is surprising given that Disney Interactive hasn’t yet detailed the game.

Disney Infinity is a virtual sandbox game and adventure game all in one. Different play sets have their own campaign that are specifically tailored to their theme. Placing the characters on the digital pad included with Disney Infinity unlocks extras. Toy Box Mode is all about empowering creativity. Players can use the different playsets and figures that they have to unlock more items for Toy Box mode. Toy Box doesn’t have a distinct campaign, but lets players create whatever they want. There’s some online multiplayer for this mode too, letting Disney Infinity players experience the playsets and extras that other gamers have that they don’t.

Disney Infinity 2.0 improved on those two modes by adding new levels, increasing how big a world could be created in Toy Box mode and adding tons of new characters. It was Disney Infinity 2.0 that added Marvel characters to the game. Included in the Disney Infinity 2.0 starter pack are Merida from Brave and Stitch from the movie and television show Lilo & Stich.

News of Disney Infinity 3.0 coming first leaked in early April after another online retailer posted information and details about the game and related figures.

In that leak we learned that Ashoka and Anakin Skywalker from the Disney Infinity 3.0 Starter Pack will be joined by characters from across lots of Disney’s different franchises. Classic Disney character Mickey Mouse is being added to the game with the release. So too is Mulan, one of the more recent Disney princesses to make her début. Sam Flynn and Quorra from Tron Legacy will have Disney Infinity 3.0 figures too.

Disney Infinity is just one of a group of games that use physical characters as a way for players to interact with their in-game world. Skylanders was the first game in the genre. Disney Infinity followed it, with Nintendo introducing its own Amiibo action-figures most recently. Warner Brothers Interactive and Lego are set to join the craze in time for the holiday season with an entry of their own. Called Lego Dimensions, players will get characters inspired by other franchises like Batman, The Wizard of Oz, Lego: The Movie and the Lord of the Rings.

Presumably, we’ll hear more about Star Wars characters for Disney Infinity 3.0 at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo in June. For sure, Disney has to have other characters from Star Wars: The Clone Wars on the way. On the box for the leaked Starter Set are Yoda, R2D2, Darth Vader, Darth Maul, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Princess Leia and C3PO.

New Video Shows Magical Xbox One & Windows 10 Streaming

New Video Shows Magical Xbox One & Windows 10 Streaming is a post by Travis Pope from Gotta Be Mobile.

Being able to play Halo 5: Guardians on their PC isn’t something that gamers necessarily asked for in droves. That being said, they will once they see the game featured in a new promotional video for Microsoft’s Windows 10 operating system.

Microsoft showed off Halo 5: Guardians streaming to a PC running its Windows 10 operating system in a video for its Windows 10 operating system that’s coming later this year. Besides including Halo 5: Guardians in the lightning fast demo, Microsoft also gives users a look at Fable Legends on Windows 10 in a second highlight reel.

Halo-5-Guardians-Empire-13

Read: 11 Windows 10 Features Coming Worth the Upgrade

In the video we see someone playing what appears to be Halo 5: Guardians multiplayer on their Xbox One. A few seconds later the video is shown flying through the air to a Windows 10 PC that’s equipped with an Xbox One controller. We don’t learn anything about how video game streaming from the Xbox One will work when Windows 10 arrives. Thankfully, Microsoft also showed off Xbox One game streaming to those in attendance at its BUILD 2015 developer conference, including The Verge’s Tom Warren.

Warren describes Xbox on Windows 10 streaming is being as “awesome” as he’d hoped it would be. Xbox One game streaming is baked into an updated version of the Xbox companion app for Windows 10. Users simply open the app on their Windows PC and let it connect over their local network.

Users don’t have to go to their Xbox One before they start a game streaming session. Instead, the new Windows 10 Xbox one app lets them browse their game selection directly from their PC. There’s a game streaming option for each title. Microsoft also allows users to browse the entire Xbox One directly from the Xbox app for Windows 10. There users can launch any of their console’s apps. Microsoft hasn’t yet said whether developers will be able to disable game streaming for specific titles since being able to stream from the Xbox One might encourage users to only buy a single copy of a game that’s available on both Windows 10 and Xbox One.

The two big caveats for streaming on the Xbox One are huge. First, Microsoft is limiting the app to local networks at launch. That means that Xbox One owners can’t stream their games from their console when they aren’t home. That’s a shame as Sony’s Remote Play feature for the PS4 does allow users to play games from their console when they aren’t home. Microsoft told The Verge that it’s looking at adding streaming when users aren’t home, but doesn’t have much to say about it right now.

The second video Microsoft posted is more of a granular look at what it’s working on for the entire Windows 10 experience. It’s this one that includes some of the new Windows 10 apps in action and a look at Fable Legends running on a Windows 10 PC. Fable Legends will mark Microsoft’s big return to PC gaming development. The game is cross-platform, meaning users can play it on their Windows PCs with other Xbox Live users without streaming – unlike Halo 5: Guardians.

According to Microsoft, members of the Windows Insider Program can expect Xbox One game streaming to arrive as an update for the Xbox One app sometime soon. That makes sense as the Xbox app for Windows 10 already has many of the features Microsoft promised back at its Windows 10 Media Briefing in January. The app already has screenshot and video recording capabilities. It can send messages and track Xbox Live Achievements too.

Microsoft plans to launch Windows 10 as a free update for personal computers running Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 this summer.  Presumably, this new Xbox app will replace the Games hub that’s available in Windows 8.1 today.
