Independence Day GTA Online Event: 3 Tips for Fast Cash is a post by Travis Pope from Gotta Be Mobile.

With its newly revealed Independence Day GTA Online Event video game developer Rockstar Games is rewarding anyone and everyone who decides to spend some time in GTA 5’s online multiplayer mode with deep discounts and character bonuses.

Rockstar announced the Independence Day GTA Online Event in a post on its Rockstar Newswire blog earlier today. GTA Online is the dedicated multiplayer experience that Rockstar includes with every copy of GTA 5 that it sells. Playing during the Independence Day GTA Online Event could mean big upgrades for your in-game character and faster leveling. Rockstar is promising double RP and cash bonuses for players on the PC, Xbox One, PS4 and more.

Here’s some tips on taking advantage of the Independence Day GTA Online Event and what’s events should be at the top of your list when you jump in this weekend.

Do Any Job or Activity You Want for Faster Leveling

When you first play GTA 5’s GTA Online multiplayer you’ll notice just how limited your character is in the beginning. That’s on purpose, by competing against more players and doing more activities in the game world you earn RP. RP then unlocks new weapons at AmmoNation and other activities you can do.

GTA 5

During the Independence Day GTA Online Event, Rockstar is promising double the amount of RP on all jobs and activities. What this means is that absolutely anyone can pick a Job or activity in the game that they like and do it to level faster than they could otherwise. What’s more, the boosted RP doesn’t seem to have a cap, meaning GTA 5 players can play as long as the event lasts and finally reach the same level as their friends. From bike races to death matches, you can level up in half the time it’d normally take you for this weekend only.

Do Any Online Playlist and Get More Cash

The GTA Online experience is built around two things mostly. There’s RP, which determines what activities are available to you, what vehicles are readily available and what you can purchase from AmmoNation. In-game cash is just as important in GTA Online and the Independence Day GTA Online Event makes it easier to get ahold of more of that too.

Rockstar has ruled out a new dedicated Independence Day GTA Online Event that lets users get double the amount of cash they’d normally get for completing playlists in GTA Online normally. Americana packs parachuting, giving you a fun way to earn cash as you drop from planes in the vast GTA Online world. Land of the Free is a capture game type. Mud, Sweat and Gears is a race.

Keep playing the dedicated the Independence Day GTA Online Event for more and more cash this weekend. The more you play, the easier it’ll be for you to afford an upgraded hideout, weapons and the other amenities that GTA Online offers to players flush with currency.

Stacking RP opens more activities to you – like Heists for example. Now use all of that cash you earned during the Independence Day GTA Online Event to pick up everything you need to get more advanced missions done.

During the Independence Day GTA Online Event Rockstar is slashing the prices of anything and everything you can purchase in GTA 5’s GTA Online. AmmoNation has 25% discounts on every possible weapon in the game. Vehicles, clothing and extras are part of the deep discounts too.

Rockstar is encouraging GTA Online players to pick up its special Independence Day themed extras during the event. Back are the giant Liberator monster truck and Sovereign motorcycle, both of which are purchasable through a web browser in the game. All of the game’s clothing stores offer Independence Day attire. There’s also a special Fireworks Rocket Launcher available for purchase.

The Independence Day GTA Online Event for GTA 5 kicks off today, July 1st and runs until Monday, July 6th. All versions of GTA 5 unlock GTA Online. GTA Online for Xbox One, PS4 and PS3 includes some extras like a first-person view so that you can actually become your character. That being said, GTA 5 for the Xbox 360 and PS3 will work just fine for anyone who already have those versions and simply want to jump back in to experience this week’s event.

A new copy of GTA 5 costs $59.99 from GameStop for Xbox One, PC and PS4 users. New copies for Xbox 360 and PS3 users are selling for $29.99, which is pretty reasonable considering how popular the game still is. Used copies of all versions of the game run roughly $5 below the price of a new copy. Both Microsoft and Sony sell digital versions of GTA 5 that come complete with GTA Online for $59.99 in their respective stores.

OS X Yosemite 10.10.4 Release: What’s New

OS X Yosemite 10.10.4 Release: What’s New is a post by Craig Lloyd from Gotta Be Mobile.

OS X Yosemite 10.10.4 was released yesterday. Here’s what’s new in the latest version of OS X.

The OS X 10.10.4 update got lost quickly amongst the hype for iOS 8.4, which was also released yesterday by Apple, which comes with the company’s new music streaming service, making iOS 8.4 one of the biggest minor updates that iOS has ever gotten, so it’s no surprise that OS X Yosemite 10.10.4 took a back seat yesterday.

As with most minor updates to OS X in the past, this update isn’t a huge one by any means, but it does come with some notable improvements and new features that users should be aware of.

This update arrives after Apple unveiled OS X El Capitan earlier last month, which keeps the same overall look and feel from OS X Yosemite, but adds a handful of new features that users will enjoy, including improvements to Spotlight Search, the Mail app, Safari, and some enhancements to Finder.

OS X El Capitan won’t release until some point in the fall, but in the meantime you can take advantage of this new OS X Yosemite 10.10.4 update right now. Here’s what’s new in the latest update.

TRIM for 3rd-Party SSDs

If you’re familiar with TRIM, it’s essentially a feature that solid-state drives can take advantage of that more or less improves performance for the drive. It gets a bit more complicated than that, but I’ll spare you the details for now.

However, OS X hasn’t included native TRIM support until now. While Apple doesn’t mention it in the update, Ars Technica has discovered that you can enable TRIM in OS X Yosemite via the OS X Terminal.

If your Mac came with flash storage out of the box like most newer MacBooks do, then you don’t need to worry about this feature. However, if you bought a Mac that included a regular hard drive, but you swapped it out for a solid-state drive, you’ll want to enable TRIM for it in order to get the best performance out of it. And now, you no longer need to install third-party software to make that happen.

WiFi Problems Fixed

Are constant WiFi issues on your Mac the bane of your existence? Hopefully that will no longer be the case with this latest OS X update.

OS-X-Yosemite-setup

It seems that with every new OS X update, Apple attempts to fix WiFi problems, but users still end up having all sorts of issues with their WiFi. However, it looks like Apple has finally fixed the problem.

The 10.10.4 update replaces “discoveryd” with “mDNSResponder” when it comes to handling DNS on your Mac. discoveryd was known for creating all sorts of problems that could affect WiFi connections. Instead of Apple fixing it, they went back to the basics to something that has been proven to work on older versions of OS X.

Essentially what this means is that you shouldn’t have any more problems with your WiFi, at least not any major problems on Apple’s end.

iCloud Photo Library Improvements

Have you noticed that syncing photos across your iOS devices and your Mac leaves something to be desired? You’re not alone, and it looks like Apple has improved that with the latest OS X update.

import-photos-mac-1

I’ve been a witness to iCloud Photo Library problems before, and photos simply sync very slowly for me, which means when I take a photo on my iPhone, it takes a little while for it to show up on my Mac in the Photos app, even with a strong and fast internet connection.

However, this seems to be a performance issue with iCloud Photo Library, and Apple has focused its efforts on improving that for the 10.10.4 update this time around. OS X 10.10.3 included the introduction of the new Photos app earlier this year, so it’s still a fairly new piece of software, but hopefully the improvements that Apple made to iCloud Photo Library will make the experience even better.

Android Apple Music Comes Early with Beats 1 Stream

Android Apple Music Comes Early with Beats 1 Stream is a post by Josh Smith from Gotta Be Mobile.

The Android Apple Music release date doesn’t arrive until the fall, but you can already listen to Beats 1 radio on Android and on the iPhone 4 thanks to a handy new tool that delivers a Beats 1 radio stream to old iPhones, Android devices and to Safari on OS X. Here’s how to stream Beats 1 on Android and the iPhone 4.

Apple promises an Android Apple Music release date in 2015, but users who want to listen to Beats 1 radio don’t need to wait months to hear the new shows and music that Apple delivers with Apple Music.

This same hack allows iPhone 4 owners on iOS 6 or higher to listen to Beats 1 radio on the iPhone 4. This is very handy for these users because there is no iPhone 4 iOS 8.4 update available. This means there is no iPhone 4 Apple Music app available.

Use the browser based Beats 1 stream to listen to the Apple Music beats 1 radio station on Android, iPhone and Safari for OS X. This will not work on Chrome for Mac or PC, but you can use iTunes to watch on those devices, so this isn’t an issue.

Get an early taste of the Android Apple Music release with a Beats 1 stream on Android and older iPhones.

Get an early taste of the Android Apple Music release with a Beats 1 stream on Android and older iPhones.

You don’t need an Apple Music subscription to listen to the Beats 1 stream on Android or on older iPhones.

Visit the Beats 1 stream to get a taste of Android Apple Music or to listen to Beats 1 on an older iPhone device without iOS 8.4.

Click on the play icon to start streaming Beats 1 on your device. There are auto-loading tweets below the stream, but they don’t impact playback.

In our test of the Android Beats 1 stream solution we can still listen to the music with Chrome in the background and with the phone screen off, so you can get a good experience overall, at least until the Android Apple Music release date arrives with a full featured app.

One downside we ran into during testing is that the stream will occasionally stop after 15 to 20 minutes. The webplayer buttons are unresponsive, but refreshing the page will start the stream again. This is annoying for long listening sessions, but if you need to choose between the occasional refresh and not listening to any Apple Music on Android right now, many users will choose a refresh.

The Android Apple Music download will deliver a real app that includes the Beats 1 radio station, complete with access to what’s playing and the full Apple Music experience. Beats 1 radio is front and center in the new service, but it is not the only part.

With the Android Apple Music service users will be able to stream individual songs, artists and check out curated playlists that include some human touches. As you sign up for Apple Music you can tell the service what genres and artists you like and the service will use this to deliver suggestions on what to listen to.

Apple already offers Apple Music on iTunes, iPhone and iPad, but the Android Apple Music release date is still missing. We do know that it is coming in 2015, but Apple did not announce a specific date. This may arrive around the iOS 9 release date and iPhone 6s release date that we expect in late September.

Currently there is a free three-month trial of Apple Music. Apple did not confirm how long this offer will last, or if it will still be around when the Android Apple Music release date finally arrives, but it’s very likely.

iOS 8.4 vs iOS 8.3: What’s New in iOS 8.4

Apple Music Streaming

Apple Music Streaming

The new Apple Music app includes the new Apple Music streaming service designed to take on Spotify, Pandora and other services. The iOS 8.4 update enables this new app and includes a free three-month trial of the Apple Music service.

With Apple Music you can pay $9.99 a month for an individual or $14.99 a month for a family of up to six members and enjoy full albums on demand and save music for offline playback.

Apple Music uses your musical tastes to pick new music that you might enjoy listening to in a new For You section of the music app that will help you find new music to listen to. The video above shows how this works.

This new app replaces the Music app from iOS 8 and earlier. Apple is not adding another app you cannot install from the iPhone or iPad, just updating one that is already on your device.

4 Reasons Not to Jailbreak iOS 8.4

4 Reasons Not to Jailbreak iOS 8.4 is a post by Craig Lloyd from Gotta Be Mobile.

An iOS 8.4 jailbreak has been released, but here’s why you may not want to jailbreak iOS 8.4 on your iPhone or iPad.

TaiG released its updated jailbreak tool today that works with iOS 8.4, allowing users to jailbreak the latest version of iOS. It’s been a crazy few days this month as an iOS 8.3 jailbreak was released last week and received several updates since then.

The iOS 8.3 jailbreak only lasted about a week, which would usually be a bad sign for a jailbreak, but luckily an iOS 8.4 jailbreak has stepped in to take its place. Perhaps the best news is that this jailbreak will likely last throughout the summer until iOS 9 releases, since iOS 8.4 will probably be the last major update to iOS 8.

While many users are excited to install the iOS 8.4 jailbreak, both veterans and new additions to the jailbreak community, jailbreaking may not be the best plan for you, especially if you’ve never have jailbroken a device before.

Read: How to Jailbreak iOS 8.4 with TaiG

The process is fairly easy and straightforward, but it’s usually when you start using your iPhone or iPad when things can get tricky. Here are four reasons not to jailbreak iOS 8.4.

No Mac Support Yet

While it’s not necessarily a reason why you shouldn’t jailbreak your iPhone or iPad, having no Mac support for the jailbreak tool is a big hindrance to gaining an iOS 8.4 jailbreak if you have a Mac.

ios-8.4-jailbreak

This was the case for the iOS 8.3 jailbreak, as well as the iOS 8.1 jailbreak when it released back in December. Both didn’t offer an OS X version of the jailbreak tool, and the iOS 8.1 jailbreak didn’t receive Mac support until several months after the jailbreak was initially released.

Currently, the TaiG jailbreak tool for iOS 8.4 only works with Windows machines, so Mac users are out of luck, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see a Mac version release at some point in the future.

iOS Instability

It’s not surprising to know that when you jailbreak your iPhone or iPad, you leave your device open to all sorts of instabilities. You’re essentially hacking into your iPhone and changing around the code when you install jailbreak tweaks, and when you do this, you risk losing any stability with iOS.

iOS-8-Cydia

Things like random reboots and jailbreak tweaks that negatively mess with other features on your device are possible with a jailbroken iPhone or iPad. This is why it’s usually not a good idea to jailbreak if you’re new to iOS or a novice user in the first place.

Of course, more experienced users can jailbreak without a problem because they know how to deal with any instabilities that come up, but if you’re already not comfortable with iOS quite yet, it might be best to stay away from jailbreaking for now.

You Can’t Update iOS

While it won’t be a problem for the next few months, a jailbroken iPhone or iPad cannot be updated when a new version of iOS releases, unless that new version is jailbreakable.

iPhone-6s-Plus-3

This means that if an iOS 8.5 update would release over the summer, you wouldn’t be able to update your device to iOS 8.5, unless it’s jailbreakable, which most likely wouldn’t be the case.

So if you’re one that likes to update iOS to the latest version in order to get the new features and take advantage of the improvements, jailbreaking may not be your cup of tea. However, if you’re someone who can be patient with updating your device, jailbreak away.

Voided Warranty

Another reason why you may not want to jailbreak your iPhone or iPad is because it will void your warranty with Apple, which means that if your device is defective and you need to take it to Apple to get it fix, but they find out that you jailbroke your device, they decide not to fix it based on that. You’ll be out of luck if that happens.

iPhone-6s-Plus-4

Jailbreaking is completely legal, and there’s nothing stopping you from doing it as far as the law is concerned, but Apple has jurisdiction in that area, and if your iPhone or iPad is jailbroken, the company can void your warranty.

Of course, there are easy ways around this, including unjailbreaking your device before you take it to Apple to get repaired. This is about the only sure-fire method for essentially not getting caught. Simply just back up your iPhone or iPad, restore it to factory settings, and then restore the backup to get to an unjailbroken state.
