Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition Alternatives

Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition Alternatives is a post by Adam Mills from Gotta Be Mobile.

Bethesda isn’t making any more of its Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition for PS4, Xbox One and PC which puts some consumers in a tough position as we approach the game’s November 10th release date. Fortunately, there are some Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition alternatives that should be on your radar if you’re unable to secure a copy of the game for a reasonable price.

In June, Bethesda teased a Fallout 4 announcement at E3 2015 in Los Angeles. As promised, the company took the stage and outlined a game that many people have been waiting for since the release of Fallout 3 in 2008. Fallout 4 is official and it will be arriving for Xbox One, PS4, and PC later this year.

During the company’s announcement, Bethesda’s Todd Howard revealed plans to release a special collectors version of the game dubbed Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition. The $120 version of Fallout 4 comes with a real working version of the Pip Boy and several other items that appeal to fans of the Fallout series.

The company and its retailer partners put the Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition up for pre-order ahead of the game’s November 10th release date. And almost immediately, buyers were faced with stock shortages as retailers ran out of their initial allotment of Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition pre-orders.

In late June, Bethesda announced that its last allotment to retailers in the United States and Europe would be its last. The game is completely sold out in the United States and it’s not clear if retailers like Amazon, Best Buy and GameStop will release more stock in the buildup to the game’s release.

Obviously, this has left some buyers frustrated. One because the game is completely sold out and two because resellers on places like eBay are charging an arm and a leg for the rights to a pre-order.

There are reasons to buy the Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition and reasons to skip it altogether. We recently put together some tips for those of you who are thinking about buying one between now and the game’s release. And today, we want to offer another tip that might be appealing to those of you that want the Pip Boy experience but can’t find or don’t want the Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition.

That tip? Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition alternatives.

Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition Alternatives

If you want a Pip Boy that’s compatible with a smartphone and the Fallout 4 companion application, there are ways to acquire this very thing if you’re alright with it not coming from Bethesda itself.

There are a number of people selling Pip Boy replicas on places like Etsy. We’ve tracked down three awesome versions of the Pip Boy that appear to work with popular smartphones like the Galaxy S6, iPhone 5s and more.

What’s more is that from the pictures, they look like viable alternatives to the Pip Boy that Bethesda’s including in its collectors edition. They don’t come with a copy of Fallout 4 like the Pip Boy Edition though.

There are several Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition alternatives available.

There are several Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition alternatives available.

This Pip Boy 3500 from Etsy seller Jon Peters has been “scaled to fit the new Samsung Galaxy S5 and S6 model phones.” Reviews from those that bought this version of the Pip Boy are solid with one user saying:

Purchased un-finished and assembled myself. It is an excellent build with lots of detail. It is true to Fallout 3 & 4. Can’t wait to see what the seller does with the new one. Excellent work and quick shipping.

Peters also has another version of the Pip Boy available. His Pip Boy 3000 is a little cheaper than the other model. It can also fit some smartphones as he lists it with phone case dimensions that measure 137 x 71 x 20 mm. Like the other model, this version also has solid reviews.

He’s not the only one selling Pip Boy replicas that work with phones. Another Etsy seller is offering another version of the Pip Boy 3000 that’s garnered excellent reviews and fits devices like the iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, and devices like the Samsung Galaxy S4. Like the other two, it’s DIY which means that it will require assembly on the user end.

They do require assembly though.

The finished products look outstanding and they are certainly worth a look if you want a Pip Boy to use with the Fallout 4 companion application.

While they cost the same as the Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition, it’s important to remember that Bethesda’s $120 bundle includes the Pip Boy, a copy of Fallout 4, and more. These alternatives are just working Pip Boys.

If you’re able to find the game in stock, by all means order it. But if you can’t find it or you want something a little different than Bethesda’s version, take a look at these alternatives and keep an eye out for others. We would expect to see this market heat up in response to the sell out.

Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition Release Date

The most important thing that you need to know, as a prospective buyer or a future owner, is that the Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition release date is the same date that Bethesda plans to release the regular old version of Fallout 4.

The Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition release date is set for November 10th and from the looks of things, the company isn't anticipating any setbacks, even with the huge demand for the collectors edition. It has a production plan and it's sticking to it.

We don't expect the company to encounter any delays with the Fallout 4 release date and if you already ordered a Pip Boy Edition, you should expect to have it show up on your doorstep or the doorstep of a loved one in time for the holidays.

7 Reasons to Install iOS 8.4

7 Reasons to Install iOS 8.4 is a post by Adam Mills from Gotta Be Mobile.

There are some valid reasons to avoid Apple’s new iOS 8.4 update right now. There are also some reasons why you might want to install the iOS 8.4 update today. Here, we focus on the latter. Here are the people that should install the iOS 8.4 release on iPhone, iPad or iPod touch right now.

Earlier this week, Apple finally took the iOS 8.4 update out of beta and released it to iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users around the world. The update is much larger than your standard incremental update as it brings more than just fixes for lingering iOS problems.

In addition to bug fixes and enhancements, Apple’s new iOS 8 upgrade brings big changes to iBooks and the company’s new Apple Music platform that will compete against services like Spotify, Pandora, and more. It’s a substantial update and one that many iPhone and iPad users have eyes on now that it has been released.

iPhone-6s-Plus-1

Earlier this week, we relayed a few reasons why you might want to skip the iOS 8.4 update, at least for the moment. Those reasons are still valid. That said, today we want to share a few reasons why you might want to install Apple’s latest iOS upgrade right now or in the near future.

You Want to Try Apple Music

Maybe the best reason to install iOS 8.4 on your phone is so that you can try out Apple’s new Apple Music service.

Apple Music is Apple’s brand new streaming music platform that’s housed inside of the company’s redesigned Music application. In an effort to entice users, the company is offering a free three month trial to anyone with an Apple ID. If you own an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, you have an Apple ID.

New iOS 8.4 Features - Apple Music - 9

Thing is, you can’t access Apple Music unless you move to iOS 8.4 or the upcoming iOS 9 beta. So if you’re at all interested in the service, you will need to install the update on your device.

We’ve been digging into Apple Music since the iOS 8.4 release and we’re impressed with the service that Apple’s built. You might agree but you truly won’t know until you’ve tried it yourself.

You Use iBooks

Music is the focus in iOS 8.4 but it’s not the only platform that got an upgrade in Apple’s new update.

Apple also released some big improvements to its iBooks platform. We’ve been using them since yesterday’s iOS 8.4 release and we think that a lot of people are going to enjoy these changes. As a reminder, here’s what changed:

  • Browse, listen and download audiobooks from inside iBooks
  • Enjoy the all-new Now Playing feature, designed specifically for audiobooks
  • Books that are Made for iBooks now work on iPhone in addition to iPad
  • Find and pre-order books in a series right from your library
  • Improves accessibility of widgets, glossary and navigation in books made with iBooks Author
  • New default Chinese font
  • New setting to turn off Auto-Night theme in your library
  • Resolves an issue that may have prevented Hide Purchases from working
  • Resolves an issue that may have prevented downloading books from iCloud

So, what we have here is a combination of new features and bug fixes for an application that’s among the most popular on the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.

If you consider yourself an avid iBooks user, iOS 8.4 is probably worth a download for these features alone. We always encourage you to seek other feedback before making a decision but so far, we like what we see.

You Own an Apple Watch

If you own an Apple Watch, you probably want to think about installing the iOS 8.4 update because it fixes an extremely annoying issue.

Apple-watch-1

The iOS 8.4 update brings a fix for an issue that caused some deleted Apple Watch applications to reinstall. It’s an annoying bug and one that you can eliminate by upgrading.

It Fixes An Annoying Message Bug

iOS 8.4 also fixes another annoying iOS 8 problem.

In iOS 8.3 a certain string of Unicode messaged to a device could cause the Messages application to crash or the device to restart. Apple promised a fix for the issue in iOS 8.4 and it kept its promise. iOS 8.4 kills this bug and it probably won’t be coming back anytime soon.

You Can Trial iOS 8.4

You might want to install iOS 8.4 right now or sometime in the near future because you can essentially do a trial run with the update on board your device.

Thanks to a loophole, you’re currently able to drop back down to iOS 8.3. (You can’t go back to anything older than that though so if you’re on iOS 8.2 or below, keep that in mind.) The downgrade to iOS 8.3 should be open for a week or more which gives you time to test out iOS 8.4 to see if you like it and its features.

If it’s not on par with your standards then you can simply drop back down to iOS 8.3 and wait for Apple to release its next update. Maybe that’s iOS 8.4.1. or maybe it’s iOS 9 in the fall. We can’t be sure at this point.

You Care About Security

Apple didn’t talk about this on stage at WWDC 2015 but iOS 8.4 comes with a ton of security enhancements for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. These are crucial, especially to those of you that store or view sensitive data on your device. If this is something you care about, iOS 8.4 is worth an install.

iOS 8.4 Performance

Finally, if you’re looking for performance upgrades, iOS 8.4 is probably worth a download.

We’ve been using the update for 24 hours now and the update is performing well across all of our iPhones and iPads which include the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5, and more.

iPhone-6s-Plus-4

While it has only been a day, we’re confident that the update’s stability is going to hold. This is an update that went through an extensive beta process and it’s an update that arrives on top of a solid foundation. iOS 8.3 brought tons and tons of bug fixes for iOS 8 problems.

There are iOS 8.4 problems but from what we’ve seen, most of them are isolated. The update doesn’t appear to have any major issues on board so if it’s fixes or a performance boost you’re after, iOS 8.4 is worth a shot.

iOS 8.4 Jailbreak on iPhone 6: Impressions & Performance

iOS 8.4 Jailbreak on iPhone 6: Impressions & Performance is a post by Craig Lloyd from Gotta Be Mobile.

Hot on the heels of the iOS 8.4 update release was an iOS 8.4 jailbreak. Here’s how the new jailbreak performs on the iPhone 6 so far.

It’s been a busy few days for the jailbreaking community. Last week an iOS 8.3 jailbreak was released, and several updates were issued throughout the days following. However, iOS 8.4 was right around the corner at that point, and once the update released earlier this week, an iOS 8.4 jailbreak quickly followed.

There’s a lot to be thankful for with this new jailbreak, mostly because this will likely be the last major iOS 8 update, so the jailbreak will last throughout the summer until iOS 9 releases at some point in the fall.

That’s usually not the case, or at least a jailbreak usually doesn’t come this quickly. However, there were a few months where iOS 8.1.2 was the latest version that was jailbreakable, while iOS 8.2 and iOS 8.3 released afterward. Only just recently has the latest version of iOS been able to be jailbroken.

In any case, I was able to update my iPhone 6 to iOS 8.4 (despite the hammered Apple servers) and jailbreak it using TaiG’s updated jailbreak tool. Here’s how my iPhone 6 performs with the new jailbreak.

First Impressions

Installing the iOS 8.4 jailbreak was painless and rather quick. The TaiG jailbreak tool for iOS 8.4 works identically to the iOS 8.3 version, and you simply plug in your iOS device and click Start. A few minutes later, you’re greeted with a jailbroken iPhone or iPad on iOS 8.4.

iOS 8.4 jailbreak

Of course, though, it’s important to know that first impressions of a jailbreak can be rather shallow. In other words, as long as your newly-jailbroken iPhone works like it should and Cydia works fine, then it’s a good jailbreak.

When the iOS 8.3 jailbreak first released, Cydia wasn’t supported quite yet, so jailbreak tweaks wouldn’t work until the jailbreak was updated to support Cydia. That went on for a couple of days, but the iOS 8.4 jailbreak didn’t receive the same troubles, luckily.

Furthermore, the iOS 8.4 jailbreak can only be installed using Windows machines at the moment, leaving Mac users hanging out to dry for the time being until an OS X version releases at some point, which should happen soon enough.

One thing that I’ve noticed more (even within just the first day of jailbreaking) is that my WiFi and LTE don’t randomly cut out, which used to be a frequent occurrence. I wasn’t able to get online at all without restarting my iPhone. I’m not quite sure if that’s a jailbreak thing or a bug with iOS 8.1.2, but it’s certainly nice that I don’t have to deal with that anymore on the iOS 8.4 jailbreak.

Performance

While it’s not a huge surprise, many of the performance improvements that I’ve seen on my jailbroken iPhone 6 running iOS 8.4 are mostly because of iOS 8.4, and it’s been incredible to see the difference in performance with iOS 8.4 compared to iOS 8.1.2 that was running previously before I updated.

However, the jailbreak itself is a lot more stable this time around. Cydia performs a lot better than before, and that makes it easier and better overall to install jailbreak tweaks.

iOS-8-Cydia

Furthermore, battery life has seen an improvement. To say the least, it was horrid on iOS 8.1.2, getting down to 50 or 60% after the work day was over when I barely even used my iPhone. However, with iOS 8.4, my iPhone usually doesn’t get below 80% after the day is done, and I don’t have to constantly be wondering about if I should charge it or not.

Touch ID is also something that I’ve seen a huge improvement in. Beforehand I would try to scan my fingerprint and it would either take forever or it would tell me to try again because it couldn’t read it correctly the first time.

However, with iOS 8.4, Touch ID works a lot better and I feel like I don’t have to avoid it and just use the passcode. It works how it should work now, and that’s something worth writing home about, despite how pathetic that sounds.

The only big downside that I’ve seen with the iOS 8.4 jailbreak is tweak support. There are still a handful of popular jailbreak tweaks that need updated for iOS 8.4, including Activator and F.lux. Both have beta versions available that work with iOS 8.4, but if you’re not comfortable with beta software, we’d suggest staying away until final versions release. However, beta versions of jailbreak tweaks are usually pretty stable.

The good news is that Springtomize has been updated for iOS 8.4. The jailbreak tweak didn’t support iOS 8.3 when that jailbreak came out, but the popular utility was just recently updated to work on iOS 8.4 and iOS 8.3.

However, it may take a bit of time for all jailbreak tweaks to be updated to support iOS 8.4, which isn’t too surprising, but it may cause some inconveniences for a while if you do decide to install the iOS 8.4 jailbreak on your device.
