We’ve been using the Apple iPhone 6 since September and the Samsung Galaxy S6 since April. These are two of the best smartphones on the market but there are some differences that prospective buyers need to know about before picking up one or the other. Today, we want to take a look at a few ways that the iPhone 6 beats the Galaxy S6.
In September, Apple announced two new iPhone 6 models that were, and still are, aimed at top Android flagships. The two devices come with the usual array of high-end features including speedy processor, solid rear camera, and high-resolution display. The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus also come with large displays a feature that was once unique to non-iOS devices.
The 4.7-inch iPhone 6 is the iPhone for most people and it’s still one of the best smartphones that you can buy.

In March, Samsung announced two new Galaxy S6 models that were, and still are, aimed at the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. The two devices come with an array of high-end features including speedy processor, solid rear camera, and Quad HD resolution. The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge also come with a premium design language that was once reserved for the iPhone and more recently, devices like the HTC One.
The 5.1-inch Galaxy S6 is the Galaxy S6 for most people and like the iPhone 6, it’s one of the best smartphones that you can buy right now.
We’ve been using these two phones, extensively, for a number of weeks now. Both phones are great though there are some places where one or the other shines. With that in mind, we want to point out some ways the iPhone 6 beats the Samsung Galaxy S6.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 runs Google's Android operating system. And one of the nice things about Android is that it's open. This means a lot of things but one of the most meaningful is the fact that users can fully customize their software. Apple's iOS operating system is closed and doesn't allow for that unless you jailbreak. There are also some disadvantages of having an open operating system. Because Apple has total control, it's able to get its updates out to everyone at once. It's also able to get its updates out a whole lot faster than Samsung and Google. If you pick up a Galaxy S6, there's really no telling when you'll get an update. Sometimes AT&T is first, sometimes Verizon is first, sometimes it's Sprint. More often than not, we see weeks of space between these updates. As the Galaxy S6 gets older, updates will start to get slower and slower as Samsung and its carrier partners turn their attention to newer models. The iPhone 6, three years down the road, should get software at the same time as the iPhone 7 or iPhone 8. Now this is more important than you think it is. We're not talking just major updates, we're talking bug fix updates as well. Apple's able to push out updates when it sees fit while the Android update process for big updates and bug fix updates is a convoluted mess. If you need an example, just look at the current state of the Galaxy S6. While some US carriers have pushed Galaxy S6 bug fixes to tackle some of the initial problems, others are still lagging and it's not clear when they will push their updates out. You never get that with Apple and you won't get it with the iPhone 6. |
