The first thing you see every time you use and enjoy the Galaxy Note 4 is the lockscreen, so naturally it’s pretty customizable, even if Samsung doesn’t make that very apparent. However, this is on Android 4.4 KitKat, and things will change once you get Android 5.0 Lollipop on the Note 4. Below is a quick guide showing you how to customize the Galaxy Note lockscreen wallpaper and more.

Since getting released late last year we’ve been getting loads of questions from fans and users looking for more ways to use and enjoy the smartphone. Before we get started you’ll want to check out our 51 Galaxy Note 4 Tips & Tricks, then take a peek at the information below.

Thankfully changing the Galaxy Note 4 lockscreen settings, features, wallpaper, and even the animation effects are all quite easy. The settings aren’t spelled out for you, and changing the wallpaper isn’t very obvious, but these tasks are actually very easy.

Instructions

For starters you’re going to want to head into the settings panel by sliding down the notification bar from the top of the screen and tapping the gear-shaped icon, or flip through your app tray and find it there. Once in settings you’ll be in the General tab, and find “lock screen” in the list. This is one of the main areas you’ll go to in order to customize things.

Here you can change lockscreen security just like in the security tab, but we’re not talking about adding a password or PIN, this is how to change the look and features on your Note 4 lockscreen.

  • Dual Clock – shows both home and current time zones if you’re traveling

  • Clock Size – makes it easier to see by making it bigger or smaller

  • Show the Date – self explanatory, if you want the date shown, keep this checked

  • Camera Shortcut – allows you to instantly unlock right into the camera

  • Dialer Shortcut – allows you to instantly slide up and unlock into the dialer for quick calls

  • Owner Information – lets users add Twitter handles, call if found, or other information to the lockscreen

  • Action Memo – double tap the screen with the S-Pen to make quick memos and notes

  • Additional Info – allows you to add or remove weather and pedometer (S-Health) info from lockscreen.

Above is a list of some of the options and controls users can add to the lockscreen, not to mention a remote control using the Smart Remote Peel app detailed at the top of the page. It isn’t in the settings we just navigated to, so isn’t listed above.

Additionally users will want to change the lockscreen wallpaper to something a bit more personal. You can use the beautiful wallpapers pre-installed on the device, download live wallpapers, or choose images right from your gallery. The Note 4 even has an option to let it scroll through all the pre-loaded wallpapers, giving you something new and refreshing throughout the day, rather than the same old image.

Just like devices in the past, simply long press anywhere there isn’t an icon on the homescreen. This brings up the edit mode where you can add widgets, change homescreen settings, and also change the wallpaper. Select “wallpaper” as shown below, then choose “lock screen” instead of your homescreen. These can be independent from eachother, or the same photo should you choose.

By default the Galaxy Note 4 has multiple wallpaper options for the lockscreen, but you can always select “from gallery” and select from your own personal collection of beautiful wallpapers. They even let you select things that interest you for constantly updating wallpapers that interest you. Like sports, or vacation spots, etc. From here you’ll simply select the wallpaper of choice for your lockscreen and hit the Set Wallpaper button. It’s that easy.

You’re all done. The simple steps outlined above are all you need to know in order to customize the Galaxy Note 4 lockscreen to something a bit more personal. Having the dual clocks and camera shortcuts are nice, but some buyers would rather keep things simple, so luckily we have tons of options to check or uncheck in the settings menu.

Lockscreen widgets aren’t a thing here with the Galaxy Note 4, and the entire lockscreen will be changing even more once the Android 5.0 Lollipop update arrives. With Android 5.0 most of the options outlined above are still available, but notifications are more usable and actionable, and many of the features of Android 5.0 have been integrated into Samsung’s software interface. Enjoy the Note 4, and everything it has to offer.
