Nexus 6 Android 5.1.1 Lollipop Release Rumored is a post by Cory Gunther from Gotta Be Mobile.

Back in April Google confirmed a new Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update was headed out to all Nexus devices aimed at fixing a few bugs, and bringing additional features to Android smartphones and tablets. The Nexus 6 Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update could be next, and here’s what you need to know.

Over the past few weeks we’ve seen the absolute latest Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update hit a number of Nexus tablets, including the Nexus 9, and earlier this week it finally arrived for both the Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 smartphones. However, Google’s latest flagship Nexus 6 is still on Android 5.1, but the update could arrive this weekend.

Android 5.1.1 is working its way through most Nexus smartphones and tablets, but the latest Nexus 6 is still waiting for it to arrive. That said, it looks like this weekend the smartphone could see the software update rollout, at least if some comments by T-Mobile are accurate. Read on for more details.

WiFi devices received the software update first, and then this week cellular devices like the Nexus 4, Nexus 5 and 4G LTE enabled tablets started to see the update, all while the Nexus 6 is still sitting on an older version of Android.

The Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update is aimed at fixing a few outstanding bugs from the initial Lollipop release. It’s rumored to fix the memory leak problem, improve performance and battery life, and bring HD Voice WiFi calling native to Android. This is the update many have been waiting for with the DROID Turbo, and the same can be said about the T-Mobile Nexus 6.

Yesterday T-Mobile’s voice on Twitter, Des, posted a rather mysterious comment about the Nexus 6 and stated it will be a Happy Memorial Day weekend for Nexus 6 owners. This, most likely, is in reference the WiFi calling finally being available on the T-Mobile version of the Nexus 6. This will be introduced with the latest Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update.

So far we’ve seen almost all Nexus devices get the 5.1.1 update, and the Nexus 6 is the only one that’s still on Android 5.1 and not the latest release. We’re expecting an announcement from Google any day now, and possibly the Nexus 6 Android 5.1.1 Lollipop over the air update will start rolling out to users this weekend.

About 10 days ago Des posted on Twitter that the update and WiFi calling was delayed and should be here in about a week, so things are right on track for an update to arrive for all Nexus 6 users. This won’t be just for the T-Mobile version, but all versions of the Nexus 6. If it indeed does get released Google will start pushing out Android 5.1.1 Lollipop for all Nexus 6 owners, post the factory image to its website, and confirm the release.

It’s also worth noting that Canadian carrier Rogers has also confirmed the Nexus 6 Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update is coming soon, but didn’t give an exact date. So while we don’t know that it is coming this weekend, many are expecting it to arrive. That said, there’s always a chance or further delays or bugs that cause the release to be pushed back even further.

The Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update should hopefully fix the memory leak bug, improve performance and battery life, deliver some improvements and tweaks to the camera, and more behind the scenes things we’ll be able to confirm once it actually arrives. Stay tuned, and we’ll update the moment the Nexus 6 Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update arrives with more details, download links, and instructions on how to install the latest Android release on the Nexus 6.
