Nexus 2015 Rumors: 5 Things to Know Right Now is a post by Cory Gunther from Gotta Be Mobile.
This weekend some key details emerged about a new Nexus smartphone or two coming later this year. It has been nearly seven months since Google released the flagship Nexus 6 smartphone, and that means a successor is in the works and coming soon. We’ve been hearing rumors of a 2015 Nexus smartphone since as early as February. However, this weekend some of the biggest details yet surfaced.
Back in March some rumors started floating around that in 2015 the Nexus smartphone lineup would be a little different, and Google could potentially release two smartphones. One being a premium flagship phone, and another smaller version for those who skipped on the huge 5.96-inch Nexus 6. Today, we have new rumors that match those early reports.

Early leaks and reports have suggested that LG could make the 2015 Nexus, and others are suggesting Huawei, a Chinese manufacturer, could make a second device. Google’s had a Nexus made from almost all manufacturers over the years, but never a Chinese company such as Huawei. Read on for the latest news regarding the Nexus 5 2015, and the Nexus 6 2015.
Over the past few years we’ve seen Nexus smartphones released by Google in partnership with HTC, Samsung, LG, and the latest being the Motorola Nexus 6. With a growing market for Android phones in China, the idea of a popular Chinese manufacturer making a Nexus devices makes sense, and could finally happen in 2015.
Nexus 2015 Rumors
It sounds like buyers could have two options this year instead just one. A more pocket-friendly 5.2-inch Nexus 5, then a bigger 5.7-inch Nexus smartphone made by Huawei. That’s the latest reports according to Android Police.
The Nexus 5 had a 5.0-inch 1080p HD display, and then last year the Nexus 6 had a huge 6-inch 2560 x 1440 Quad-HD screen that was too big for many. It has been suggested that Google is killing off the Nexus line, but now we’re hearing the opposite where they’re aiming to release two phones instead of just one.
Nexus 5 2015
According to sources close to Google who spoke with AndroidPolice, Google won’t be releasing a new tablet in 2015, but will have two smartphones instead. These will likely debut with Android M later this year, possibly around October or November just like the past two Nexus smartphones.
Google gives each device a codename, and they’re usually of sea creatures. The Nexus 6 was codenamed Shamu, for reference. The report this week claims the first Nexus smartphone for 2015 will be made by LG, who made the Nexus 4 and the Nexus 5 in 2013.

Codenamed the LG Angler, this phone will have a 5.2-inch display (no word on resolution) and a mediocre sized 2,700 mAh battery. The rumor claims it will have a 6-core Snapdragon 808 processor with 3GB of RAM, like the LG G4, and possibly have the same stunning 16 megapixel camera.
Nexus 6 2015
The second Nexus smartphone is currently being called the Huawei Bullhead, which lines up with the two phone release rumors, and this will be a slightly smaller Nexus 6 coming with a 5.7-inch Quad-HD display. Leaks state it will have a faster 8-core Snapdragon 810 processor and 3 or 4GB of RAM, and the Bullhead will sport a much larger 3,500 mAh battery.
The Huawei Nexus 6 would have a slightly smaller screen and by physically smaller than the Nexus 6 last year by Motorola, have a more powerful 8-core processor, but much better battery life with more energy efficient internals and a much larger battery inside. This is essentially a slightly smaller but much improved Nexus 6 for 2015. A perfect middle ground all while taking on the Galaxy Note 5 and upcoming iPhone 6s Plus.
Android M
Google’s latest devices are all running Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, which was first announced at Google I/O last year and released in November with the Nexus 9. Android 5.0 Lollipop had lots of changes and a completely new look and feel to Android, but was riddled with bugs and required multiple quick updates to fix problems. The next version (following the alphabet and naming it after desserts) will be Android M, possibly Android 5.2 Marshmallow. A few reports suggest it’s being called Macadamia Nut Cookie, but that will likely change once it’s released.
Over the past month we’ve been hearing a few small details here and there about Android M, the next version of Android, and it looks like Google will once again announce it at Google I/O (tomorrow) and release an early developer preview this summer for the Nexus 5 and Nexus 6, then release it to the public later this year. We’re hearing an August developer preview, then a launch later this year on the above mentioned devices.
The new Nexus 5 and Nexus 6 for 2016 will likely both be the first two devices launched with Android M, but that’s all we know so far. We’re only expecting some Android M news from Google I/O, with no smartphone details until later this year.
Nexus 2015 Release Date
The information provided above is from a relatively accurate leakster, but we’ll have to wait and see. The report also claims both of Google’s new Nexus smartphones for 2015 will be announced in November, and released around the same October time-frame we’ve seen the past few years from Google.
There are no other details regarding specs or features, nor a price, but most likely Google will look to deliver a more wallet-friendly device. The Nexus 6 was nearly twice the cost of the Nexus 5 before it, and didn’t sit well with consumers or Nexus enthusiasts.
If Google manages to deliver two smartphones hitting both ends of the flagship smartphone spectrum, all running the latest Android M release, it could be the best Nexus smartphone (or two) in the programs history. Hopefully both devices will be sold from all major carriers, but again, we’ll have to wait and see. Google I/O starts tomorrow, Google’s annual developer conference, and we could receive some first official details this week, and more as the summer progresses.
