Mafia 3 Release: 5 Things to Know Right Now is a post by Adam Mills from Gotta Be Mobile.
After years of rumor and speculation, a Mafia 3 release has finally been confirmed and we’re set to find out more about the highly anticipated follow-up to Mafia 2 in just a few short days. With the game official, we want to take a look at the most important things to know right now about Mafia 3.
Its been over five years since the release of Mafia 2, a period shooter that arrived for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The game followed the story of Vito Scaletta and a number of other memorable characters in the fictional city of Empire Bay.
Mafia 2 received mostly positive reviews due to its solid story line, cast of characters, gunplay, graphics, music, and more. In the years since its release, fans of the series have been calling on 2K Games to deliver another addition to the Mafia family of games and it looks like fans of Mafia are finally getting their wish.
For years, Mafia 3 rumors swirled around teasing PC and console owners, Those rumors really started to pick up earlier this year when the voice actor behind Vito Scaletta said that he, and his employers, might have some good news in the near future. That was back in January.
While there was a bit of a delay, Mafia 3 is now confirmed for arrival and in just a few short days we’ll be learning more about a game that gamers have been waiting for since 2010. Details are still very light but today we want to take a look at everything we know right now about the Mafia 3 release.
Mafia 3 Trailer
The first and maybe most thing to know about the Mafia 3 release is that the first unveiling will take place on August 5th at 8AM EST. This is when 2K Games and its developer partner Hanger 13 will unveil the game for the first time. The unveiling will take place at Gamescom in Germany which kicks off on August 5th.

According to the company’s Mafia 3 Twitter account, the trailer will be released on YouTube on the official Mafia YouTube account.
Mafia 3 Details at Gamescom
According to several reports, the companies will showcase more than just a trailer at Gamescom. The trailer is expected to be just a part of the full on Mafia 3 reveal during the show in Cologne.
As it stands, we know very little about the game though we’re certain that 2K Games and its partner will outline the title in detail for us next month. It’s not clear when the Mafia 3 release date will take place though it could come sooner rather than later.
Mafia 3 has reportedly been in development for several years now and Mafia 3 rumors date back to 2012. This doesn’t mean that a release date is imminent but it could mean a release in late 2015 ahead of the holidays or an arrival next year.
What the Teaser Reveals
Mafia 3 rumors from 2014 put the game’s setting in Louisiana, a far cry from Empire Bay which was based on several metropolitan areas including Los Angeles and New York City.
The teaser that 2K Games released today doesn’t reveal much but some believe that the swampy environment all but confirms those Louisiana rumors.
The teaser also features four characters next to cars that appear to be from the 1960’s or 1970’s. Casting calls for a game thought to be Mafia 3 called for three male characters, all from Louisiana. The teaser here features four male characters and a female character.
2K Games provided a statement to GameSpot that hints at all of the features that people have come to love about the Mafia series. Here’s what the company had to say:
Mafia III is the next installment in the popular series known for immersing players into a world of organized crime through rich narrative storytelling and a beautifully crafted game world featuring period-accurate cars, music, and fashion.
Sounds like Mafia 3 will stay true to its roots.
Mafia 3 for Xbox One & PS4?
In 2012, Mafia 3 rumors pointed to a release for Sony’s PS4 and Microsoft’s Xbox One. At the time, neither one of those consoles had been released.
In late 2014, Mafia 3 PS4 and Xbox One listings appeared at a retailer called Play-Asia. Those listings have since been pulled down.
While nothing is confirmed, a release for current-generation consoles makes a ton of sense. At E3 2015, companies were intensely focused on PS4 and Xbox One games and we’ve only seen a few big name titles confirmed for the Xbox 360 and PS3.
In other words, it’s safe to assume that this game will be coming to the Xbox One, PS4 and probably the PC as well. We’ll know more next month.
Hanger 13
Finally, it’s worth noting that the Mafia 3 website confirms the game’s developer as Hanger 13. The development studio is headed by Haden Blackman, a former employee of LucasArts, the company behind Star Wars.
Hanger 13 has been around for several months now and it looks like the new entry into the Mafia series could be the developer’s first big release.
