Some users report having a very hard time finding the Windows 10 upgrade. Mostly, that’s because Microsoft doesn’t want you to manually install the update. Instead, the company hopes that you’ll upgrade directly through Windows itself. To do this, turn Windows updates back if you’ve turned them off. Once all of your updates are installed there’ll be a flag in the bottom-right corner of your screen. Click on it and reserve your copy.

Windows 10 Upgrade Problems: Windows 10 Will Run on This PC Devices Issue
Some are reporting that the upgrade system tells them Windows 10 is compatible with their PC, but some devices don’t work. If that’s the case, go ahead and do the update anyway. After the update is finished, you can have Windows Update download any new drivers for the devices inside your notebook, desktop or tablet.
Manually check for updates after you’ve upgraded by going to Start, then Settings, then Update and Security. Tap or click on Check for Updates.
Windows 10 Upgrade Problems: Where to Find Your Windows Key
Doing a completely fresh install requires that you have your product key from the version of Windows that was on the PC before Windows 10. If you have Windows 7 or Windows 8 look for a sticker somewhere on your PC. If you are using Windows 8.1 the key may be embedded in your device. If that’s the cause you’ll need for the Windows product key that should have come in the paperwork for your device.

According to most estimates there are millions upon millions of PCs not running a genuine copy of Windows 7 or Windows 8.1. If you get the Windows 7 is not genuine there’s very little that you can do for free.
Free Windows 10 upgrades are only being given to users who have genuine versions of Windows 7 and Windows 8. Genuine means that either the copy of Windows that came with your machine is directly from Microsoft’s hardware partners or someone purchased a copy of Windows directly from Microsoft and installed it.
Microsoft has purchasable versions of Windows 10 coming on flash drives in August directly from Amazon. These upgrade flash drives start at $119.99. You can also join the Windows Insider Program and get access to the upgrade free of charge. Of course, doing this gives Microsoft permission to put unreleased, possibly unfinished features on your device.

Good luck with your Windows 10 upgrade. Remember Microsoft is not updating devices running Windows XP or Windows Vista for free. If you have a computer running Windows Vista you are better holding off until your next PC purchase instead of paying the $119 base price to upgrade.
