The Windows 10 release day has turned out to be a big one for gamers in two ways. First, today’s Windows 10 release includes a dedicated Xbox gaming app that lets PC gamers create their own parties and record video footage from any games they already own. Second, video game developer Mojang has a new Minecraft edition that doesn’t require extra plugins and fully supports Microsoft’s Xbox One gaming controller.

Microsoft began letting users downloaded the new Minecraft built specifically for Windows 10 PCs today. Anyone who downloads Windows 10 and heads to the Windows Store can download Minecraft Windows 10 Edition for $9.99 – half off what the PC version of the game costs normally. This version of Minecraft is available on the cheap because it’s in active beta right now. Mojang put out this version to meet the Windows 10 release date. Overtime the developer plans to add more features and upgrades.

Minecraft for Windows 10 is mostly based on Minecraft Pocket Edition. Minecraft Windows 10 Edition players can create their own worlds by themselves or with their friends. Both Xbox Live and local multiplayer worlds are coming. Besides allowing users to plug in their Xbox controller, keyboard and mouse input are also supported. Minecraft skins from other games are supported too.

Today, users can’t login to Xbox Live and play along with Minecraft Pocket Edition players on Windows Phone, Android and iPhone. Mojang promised in a recent post about Minecraft Windows 10 Edition that this is on the way.

Besides new features, this version of Minecraft offers an easier installation process, Users don’t have to keep a separate JavaScript plugin installed. Users who don’t want to keep the game installed can simply remove it from their PC without hunting down other things to uninstall too. Mojang built the original version of Minecraft with JavaScript, making it easy to mod and maintain. Unfortunately, Minecraft Pocket Edition is more user-friendly than the classic PC version since extras aren’t required to get it going. When it’s complete, Minecraft Windows 10 Edition will put the PC experience on-par with iOS, Android and Windows Phone.

The launch of this version of Minecraft is made more interesting by Xbox on Windows 10. It used to be that players of Minecraft had to set up separate chat apps if they wanted to talk to their friends. Recording video to share with friends also required that users install extra software. Xbox on Window 10 solves both of those issues for Minecraft fans.

Windows 10 has a built-in recording system that surfaces anytime a video game is opened. To manually trigger a recording, use press the Windows key on their keyboard and the G button. The Gamebar appears with options for recording video and taking screenshots without extra stuff installed. What’s more, Microsoft designed the Xbox app on Windows 10 to be a complete social experience. The built-in party lets Minecraft on PC users talk to each other while they play. Any pictures and video that they record can be shared back to Xbox Live through the app.

Mojang says that every feature update it adds to Minecraft Windows 10 Edition will come to all users absolutely free of charge. Anyone who has purchased the standard PC version of Minecraft can claim a Windows 10 version for free from the developer’s website. Like all Microsoft-made Xbox on Windows games, Minecraft Windows 10 Edition has a free trial running for anyone who has yet to try the game.
