Nexus 5 2015 Concept Video & Rumors Emerge is a post by Cory Gunther from Gotta Be Mobile.
Way back in February we started to hear the first rumors about a new Google Nexus smartphone for 2015, possibly another Nexus 5. However, since then multiple rumors have emerged suggesting two Nexus phones are coming in 2015, and a few concept videos are teasing potential features.
Earlier this summer some more reports about the Nexus for 2015 surfaced, revealing that Google could potentially be planning to release two Nexus phones this year. One made by LG to replace the Nexus 5, and a bigger 5.7-inch smartphone by Huawei that would replace the huge Motorola Nexus 6.

Many expected a new Nexus smartphone or tablet to debut at Google’s annual developer conference back in May, which never happened, but since then we’ve continued to receive bits of information about the Nexus 5 2015, and a bigger Nexus phone. Today though, we have some new details as well as another concept video teasing a huge 5.5-inch display.
In May Google announced the successor to Android 5.0 Lollipop, currently being called Android M, and it will likely arrive near the end of August, or in November like we’ve seen with the past two releases and be powering a new Nexus smartphone or two.
Along with the new version of Android will be at least one new Nexus smartphone, and today a new rumor surfaced suggesting LG has a bold new smartphone coming soon that will be the Google Nexus 5 for 2015. Before we get started on the actual rumor, here’s a new concept video (fan-made) that is teasing what we could see, but likely isn’t a real representation of the new Nexus 5.
The concept video above shows some interesting ideas for a new Nexus 5 smartphone, but most likely many of them won’t come to fruition. Google learned from the huge and overpriced Nexus 6, and most likely in 2015 a smaller and more wallet friendly Nexus smartphone will be released.
Previous rumors have stated a Huawei Nexus 6 for 2015 will offer a large 5.7-inch 2560 x 1440 Quad-HD display, the latest 8-core Snapdragon 810 processor with 3-4GB of RAM, run the new Android M release, and be powered by a huge 3,500 mAh battery and ship later this year. This would make it one of the best Android smartphones to date, and the best Nexus ever released.
Huawei’s Nexus smartphone is reportedly codenamed “Angler” and another 5.2-inch LG Nexus 5 for 2015 is also in the works with a codename of “bullhead”. These are both fish-related, something Google’s always done with the naming for Nexus devices. For reference, the Nexus 6 was codenamed Shamu, since it’s so big. LG’s phone is reportedly to be similar to the LG G4, but come in a smaller 5.2-inch size aimed at replacing the Nexus 5, have a 6-core processor, and a smaller 2,700 mAh battery.
New Rumors
LG made the Nexus 4, which resembled the LG Optimus G, and then again with the Nexus 5, which was similar inside to the LG G2, even if they looked vastly different. While we’ve been hearing an LG G4-inspred Nexus 5 2015 is coming, now we’re hearing the opposite.
Today, a new rumor is floating around that reportedly confirms that LG is indeed working on a 5.2-inch Nexus 5 smartphone for 2015, but it won’t resemble the popular LG G4 that was announced in April and released in early June. According to AndroidPit and some unknown sources, the LG-made Nexus 5 in 2015 will be based off a completely brand new, never seen before prototype smartphone from LG. Meaning it won’t look anything like the LG G4.
The LG Nexus 5 will be a completely new device, unlike the G4, and come with an impressive 2560 x 1440 Quad-HD screen, and could pack some neat new features. There’s been rumors of a 3D camera, a fingerprint scanner (integrated into Android M) and a new USB Type-C port for charging and data transfers.
If the rumors are true it looks like a completely new designed LG Nexus 5 is coming soon with a perfect middle ground in terms of size and price. That being a 5.2-inch screen, some top-tier internals under the hood, a great camera, some new features, be powered by Android M, and come in at a much lower price point than the Nexus 6 from last year.
It’s still too early to know what exactly is coming later this year, but as the summer comes to an end expect more leaks, rumors, and possible photos to surface of at least one new Nexus smartphone well ahead of any announcement or release date. What would you like to see from a Nexus smartphone this year?
