LG G3 Android 5.0 Lollipop Update Hits More U.S. Users is a post by Cory Gunther from Gotta Be Mobile.
Over the past few weeks we’ve started to see more and more carriers push the LG G3 Android 5.0 Lollipop update, and now we’re hearing one more has kicked things off. Earlier this month LG started teasing that it was “coming soon” for all users, then last week the LG G3 Android 5.0 Lollipop update finally started rolling out in the U.S. for those on AT&T and Sprint, and now we’re hearing it’s Verizon’s turn.
Last year LG announced its brand new flagship G3 smartphone in May. Delivering one of the best overall devices in 2014 with top-tier specs, an impressive 5.5-inch Quad-HD display like the Nexus 6, and extremely small bezels delivering a big screen in a small package. Those waiting for the update will be happy to know it’s here for one more carrier.

LG’s promised to deliver the Android 5.0 Lollipop update within 90 days for owners, which it met, but not in the US. In December it hit Korea, India, Poland, and parts of Europe, but not the U.S. until this month. Today we’re hearing scattered reports of the Verizon LG G3 Android 5.0 Lollipop update rolling out.
In fact, a few users over on the Verizon Wireless support pages have reportedly received Android 5.0 Lollipop as early as Sunday morning, and are having a few issues and complained on the site. This is just one report of many, and Droid-Life is reportedly hearing from users as well who’ve received Android 5.0 Lollipop today.
Verizon has yet to make an announcement or post an update or changelog on their support page, something that usually happens when smartphones receive updates, so this could be an early rollout before the mass public received the latest software upgrade. Again, we’re hearing the Verizon LG G3 is receiving Android 5.0.1 Lollipop as we speak. Below is a screenshot of the before and after.
Back in October Google announced three brand new Nexus products, and along with them debuted the brand new Android 5.0 Lollipop software update. Delivering a new look and feel to the Android operating system. With Android 5.0 Lollipop users get more features, an improved notification tray and lock screen, neat animations and effects, improved battery life (for some) and a lively feeling operating system.

So far we’re hearing most LG G3 owners on AT&T and Sprint are enjoying the update, at the same time there’s also a large amount of users that are frustrated with problems after the LG G3 Android 5.0 update, so proceed with caution.
For now we have no details regarding the Verizon LG G3 Android 5.0 Lollipop update, but when Sprint pushed it live last week they released some details regarding the upgrade. Here’s the changelog:
- Material Design for fluid animation, multicolored themes and 3D views
- More efficient battery use
- Android TV support
- Notifications on the lock screen and customizable options with prioritized notifications for events, reminders, messages and calls
- Updated Lock Screen features allow users to quickly access notifications and active apps
- Enhanced low vision and color blind capabilities for added Accessibility
- Integrated location menu enables users to easily activate GPS, Wi-Fi and mobile networks, while simultaneously checking the battery usage of apps running location service capabilities
- Enhanced Messaging with Google Hangouts™ support for SMS and MMS and a larger assortment of updated Emoji icons
- Upgraded Google Mobile Service™ apps automatically back up photos and video and can open, view, rename and share Google Docs and files
Those keeping track of what’s new with Android 5.0 Lollipop will be sad to see the “updated lockscreen features” are nice, but aren’t as full or useful as stock Android. As LG only allows two notifications on the lockscreen, at least on the AT&T and Sprint variants. There are likely a few other additions or fixes specific to Verizon’s model, but until Verizon releases the details we can’t be for sure.
As we mentioned above many users on AT&T who’ve received the LG G3 Android 5.0 update are loving the changes and new look, but we are hearing a few horror stories when it comes to performance, battery life, and app crashes. Hopefully these same problems don’t plague the Verizon LG G3, and we’ll update once Verizon confirms the update, and we have more details.
