Moto X Android 5.0 Update Heads to More US Owners is a post by Cory Gunther from Gotta Be Mobile.

The new Moto X (2014) Android 5.0 Lollipop update has continued to arrive for more and more owners over the past month, and this weekend we learned one more US carrier is finally preparing to deliver the update. Those on AT&T can look forward to the new Moto X Android 5.0 update finally arriving.

One of the first smartphones to receive the highly anticipated Android 5.0 Lollipop update that isn’t a Nexus device was the pure edition unlocked Moto X from Motorola.com, and since then we’ve seen it arrive for the Verizon Moto X, T-Mobile, and even US Cellular. However, those on AT&T were left out until now.

The original Moto X last year was among the first devices to see Android 4.4 KitKat, and this year Motorola did the same thing for the Pure Edition Moto X, but not all carriers were quick this time around. We’ve recently seen updates for the Galaxy S5, HTC One M8 and now the LG G3 all to Lollipop, and hopefully more Moto X owners are up next.

Less than two weeks ago Motorola started sending the Android 5.0 Lollipop update out for those on US Cellular, a much smaller carrier than AT&T. A move which left many Motorola owners frustrated by the lack of updates. Don’t worry though, because this weekend we received word that the final testing phase (soak test) for the AT&T Moto X Android 5.0 update has started, and the official update is coming soon.

Motorola does what’s called a “soak test” where the company has select few owners test final software just before the global or official release, and AT&T has kicked off the same testing this weekend. Typically the soak test goes for a few days, and an official over the air update for all arrives a few days later.

Those with a Moto X on AT&T can look forward to an all new experience with Android 5.0 Lollipop. All the visual elements have been changed with “material design” from Android 5.0, there’s improved notifications, lockscreen notifications, a redesigned notification pulldown bar with new quick toggles, and much more. Add in all the new animations and effects, and it will feel like a brand new device.

There are improved battery saving tools, a redesigned multi-tasking menu, and other general improvements and bug fixes. The update will likely be coming in the next few days, before the end of the week, and come in rather large so a WiFi connection is recommended.

As a reminder, this will be a staged and staggered rollout, so it may not arrive to all users at the same time. Users are welcome to head into settings > about phone > and tap check for updates once it starts to try and pull it manually, or just wait for the over the air notification to arrive.

AT&T should make a formal announcement and start pushing the update within the next few days if the soak test went well, and hopefully more carriers and the original Moto X are up next. We’ll update as soon as we receive the final word.
