New Samsung Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop release details have emerged for the United States as a top US carrier has finally rolled out its version of the Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop update.
Earlier this year, Samsung started rolling out its Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update, an update that includes both the regular Galaxy Note 4 and the curved variant known as the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge. The two updates rolled out a little bit late though they have both started to pick up the pace as we push deeper into the year and closer to the summer.
We’ve seen both the Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update and the Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop update roll out at a rapid pace inside the United States and today, the Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop update has landed for another major carrier.
Today, T-Mobile has announced its plan to roll out a Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop update to its users. The update will take T-Mobile Galaxy Note Edge users to Android 5.0.2 Lollipop and deliver Android 5.0 Lollipop features and Wi-Fi passport. The Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop update’s biggest changes should mirror the changes it delivered to the Galaxy Note 4: Lock screen changes, Material Design, and more.
T-Mobile says that the update is now available and it can be downloaded over Wi-Fi or with Samsung Kies. Samsung Kies is a PC application that allows Galaxy smartphone and tablet users to manually install updates ahead of the OTA process. T-Mobile’s OTA roll outs typically don’t take too long but those who are impatient will want to use the application to install the update right now.
The carrier states that Galaxy Note Edge users will also need 50% or higher battery life and several GB’s of free space due to the size of the update. The T-Mobile Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop update is well over 1GB in size.
The arrival of the T-Mobile Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop update means that there should be just one more Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop release left in the United States. The Verizon Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop update is still missing in action and it’s not clear when the carrier plans to roll out the firmware. It very rarely announces software release dates ahead of time.
Samsung’s Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop updates continue to pick up the pace as we push deeper into 2015. We’ve seen both updates land for a host of international carriers and variants and they’re both poised to hit more users soon. We’ve also seen the two updates hit some snags during the testing process in recent days.
Australian carrier Vodafone says that testing on both of its updates failed and it claims that it’s now awaiting a new update from Samsung. It’s not clear how long this might take and it could be weeks before we see these two updates roll out. Vodafone isn’t the first carrier to encounter problems and it won’t be the last so Galaxy Note 4 and Note Edge users around the world will need to remain patient as Samsung works to get its two Note flagships updated.
It’s not clear what’s next for these two devices though we do know that Samsung is working on an Android 5.1 Lollipop update. The update is all but confirmed for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge and we could potentially see it arrive for a few older devices.
Samsung’s Android 5.1 Lollipop update will likely come with bug fixes for Lollipop problems. In addition, it appears that Samsung is tacking on a Guest Mode feature that allows Galaxy users to setup several unique profiles. This is important for those that share their phone with their kids, family members or with friends and co-workers.
