7 Things You’ll Hate About the iPhone 5s is a post by Adam Mills from Gotta Be Mobile.
Apple still sells the iPhone 5s a cheap alternative to the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. We’ve been using the phone for close to two years now and while there are some things that we still love about it, there are also some things that we hate. Here are a few things you might hate about the iPhone 5s.
In the fall of 2013, Apple took the stage and announced a follow-up to its widely popular iPhone 5. The year before, Apple had debuted the first iPhone with a 4-inch display, the first iPhone with LTE, and the first iPhone with its lightning dock standard. Now, it was time to build on that foundation with the iPhone 5s.
The iPhone 5s arrived to great fanfare and deservedly so. It was, and is, an iPhone 5. Only better. The iPhone 5s was the first phone to deliver Apple’s Touch ID fingerprint sensor, a phone that we instantly fell in love with. It was also the first iPhone to use Apple’s A7 dual-core processor. It was, and in some ways still is, a solid device.
In the months since its release, the iPhone 5s has gone from flagship to budget alternative. The device is still sold on the Apple Store for $99 on-contract and if you look hard enough, you’ll probably be able to find it for much cheaper than that.
As we recently pointed out, there are still some things to like about the iPhone 5s and its features. Some of its hardware has held up and it should continue to get software support for several years. There are, however, some reasons to think twice about buying it nearly two years after its release.
We’ve been using the Apple iPhone 5s camera for nearly two years now and here are a few things we think you might hate about it.
The Camera Is Outdated |

The iPhone 5s was once in possession of an excellent rear camera. And while it will still do the job for most people, it simply can't compare to rear camera sensors from 2014 and 2015. In 2013, the iPhone 5s' 8MP camera was one of the features that compelled us and many others to buy the device at launch. Over the last two years though, camera technology has come a long way, and now it's camera is one of the device's flaws. It wouldn't be so bad if the iPhone 5s was cheaper than most Android devices but its not. At $99 on-contract, it's actually very expensive for a phone from 2013. If you look hard enough, you'll be able to find a Galaxy S6 or an LG G4 for around that price. Their rear cameras blow the iPhone 5s' out of the water. If you shoot a ton of photos or you're planning to shoot a ton of photos with your next phone, this is probably going to be a feature that you wind up hating. It's a big reason why we upgraded to the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Their rear cameras are far superior. |
