Moto X (2013) Android 5.1 Lollipop: What You Should Know is a post by Cory Gunther from Gotta Be Mobile.

The month of June was extremely busy for manufacturers and carriers alike looking to deliver the latest Android 5.1 Lollipop update to a slew of smartphones, and for Motorola especially. The company has pushed out updates to an array of devices, and now we have additional details regarding the original Moto X Android 5.1 Lollipop update.

Since the first release of Android 5.0 Lollipop back in October users from all manufacturers have been waiting for it to arrive. Motorola was one of the first to deliver it for the 2nd Gen Moto X from 2014, but those with the original have been stuck waiting for months. This week though we’ve learned a lot about Motorola’s plans and progress.

This week Motorola finally delivered updates to Android 5.1 Lollipop for the second Gen Moto X in the United States on both Verizon and AT&T, not to mention the long awaited DROID Turbo update. And now the company has turned its attention to the original Moto X, and it’s getting the update in many regions around the globe.

Earlier this month a Motorola employee shared tons of details on Google+ about Motorola in general, but most of the comments were regarding the original Moto X. The employee, David, then announced a full nationwide update of Android 5.1 Lollipop for the original Moto X in the United States, and here’s the full changelog with all the details everyone needs to know.

If you’re going right from Android 4.4 to Android 5.1, you’ll want to check out this what’s new guide. It goes over all of the changes, although if your Moto X is already on Android 5.0 Lollipop the changes will only be minor.

Motorola’s David Schuster, who’s the one with all the information sharing everything we just detailed above, made two other comments this week that confirms everything above, and shares even more information for those still waiting for an update to 5.1 on the original Moto X from 2013.  Here’s his latest comments.

Here is an update on the Android 5.1 Lollipop upgrades for Moto X (1st Gen)
– We are ready to enter Verizon labs next week to start their approval process
– We entered AT&T labs last week, waiting for their approval
– We are still in soak testing in India, we are investigating a potential issue and want to make sure we understand it fully before moving forward. Should have more details in a couple days.”

As you can see above the original 1st Gen Moto X in the United States is almost ready to receive the latest software from Verizon. Next week it will hit Verizon labs for approval, and this can get approved in as little as 3-5 days, or as long as four weeks. It just depends. With Verizon already pushing Android 5.1 for the DROID Turbo and the new Moto X, we have a feeling it will get approved sooner rather than later.

David also confirms AT&T already is testing the Moto X Android 5.1 software, and it should get approved soon. There’s no time-frame, but as soon as he knows more information it will likely be announced as Motorola continues its efforts to keep customers informed.

Moto X 2014 Review (13)

Then, last but certainly not least yesterday David made one more huge announcement regarding the original 1st Gen Moto X from 2013. Confirming the Android 5.1 Lollipop update has been fully deployed and is rolling out now to 14 countries around the globe.

This means that by the end of the week millions of Moto X owners in more than 14 countries and regions around the globe will see updates to Android 5.1 Lollipop, and those in the United States with AT&T and Verizon are up next. We don’t have an exact date, but the software update is waiting approval, and once it receives technical approval from each carrier the over the air updates will begin. We’ll keep an eye out for more details for those stateside, and update the moment we have confirmation the Moto X Android 5.1 Lollipop update is coming.
