5 Things to Expect from the Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop Release is a post by Adam Mills from Gotta Be Mobile.
With the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update and Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop update picking up the pace in the United States and around the world, we continue to get bombarded with questions about the roll outs. Today, we want to address some of those questions and take a look at what we expect from the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop release and Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop release moving forward.
In February, Samsung started rolling out the Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update. The update came as a huge surprise because the update was beaten to the punch by the Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy S4 Lollipop updates. The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is a current flagship and currently near the front of the line in terms of Android update timing. Not the Galaxy Note 4.
Since that day in February, the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update has hit a number of Galaxy Note 4 variants in a number of different countries including the United States. In the US, Samsung has managed to get the software out to several Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge (curved Note 4) variants. There’s still a whole lot of work left to be done though.
While some carriers have relayed key details to Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge users, others remain silent. That’s where we come in.
We’ve been covering Samsung’s Galaxy Lollipop roll out like hawks and we feel like we have a pretty good read on the future. Today, we want to take a peek into our crystal ball and offer you our Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop release and Galaxy Note Edge release expectations as April comes to a close. Here’s how we see the rest of Samsung’s roll out in the United States, and elsewhere, playing out.
Speedy Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop Release to Continue
Expect the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop release to continue its breakneck pace as we push deeper into April and into May. While the Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop release was bit delayed, the update has caught up to the Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy S4 Lollipop updates in a big way. Don’t expect Samsung to pump the breaks anytime soon. Just take a look at SamMobile’s latest software release table. You’ll find tons of references to the Galaxy Note 4.
If you’re still on Android 4.4.4 KitKat, and many of you Galaxy Note 4 users are, you’ll want to keep an eye out for your update in the next few weeks. We’re finally starting to see well known carriers issue their Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop updates and we’re even seeing some smaller markets like Australia pump out their versions of the Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update. Stay patient but keep an eye out.
Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop Push in May
Expect the same from the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop release. The Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop release started a little bit later than the Galaxy Note 4 release but we’ve slowly started to see it play catch up.
The fact that we’re seeing it land for big name carriers and markets like Australia is a sign that this update is ready for a breakout next month. We expect the furious pace to continue as we march into May and you’ll want to keep an eye out for your update.
T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 & Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop Updates Soon
T-Mobile’s Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update has been in internal testing for a couple of weeks now. The Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop update just got there. While T-Mobile hasn’t said anything, we wouldn’t be surprised if the carrier rolls these two updates out simultaneously. We’ve seen other U.S. carriers do it so there’s a good chance that once the Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop update is ready, we’ll see both of these move out.
We expect this to happen within the next three to four weeks. Internal testing usually only takes a few weeks to complete. And while they could certainly hit snags in the testing process, we would be shocked if T-Mobile users had to wait beyond the month of May. Just don’t expect T-Mobile to tell you exactly when these updates are pushing until the release dates (or release date) arrive. US carriers aren’t known for providing early release dates.
Verizon Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop Release Soon
We expect the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop update to continue to make progress in the United States within the next few weeks. Expect Verizon, the last holdout, to stay silent as it tests the software behind the scenes but we’d be surprised if the carrier failed to get its Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop update out by the end of May.
Roll Outs Will Take Months to Complete
While these updates are certainly making a solid push, don’t expect the Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update or Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop update to finish up any time soon. These roll outs will take several more months, at least. Samsung’s Android updates can take six months or more to finish up and that appears to be the path that these two updates are on.
For instance, Vodafone Australia says that it has run into some problems with testing which means that it probably won’t get the updates out for a few more days at least. Or how about Telstra, a carrier that has yet to confirm its plans. There are always stragglers and all you can do is cross your fingers and hope that your device isn’t among them.
These updates won’t finish up overnight. It’s going to be a long, unpredictable process that you’re going to need to follow, especially if you live in a smaller market that’s typically slow to major software upgrades.
Stay patient and keep an eye out for news from your carrier.
