Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop Release: 5 Things to Know Now is a post by Adam Mills from Gotta Be Mobile.
With April coming to an end and Android 5.0 Lollipop update details continuing to swirl, we want to take a look at the most important things Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge users need to know about the Galaxy Note 4 Android 5.0 Lollipop release.
Samsung’s been extremely busy during the month of April. The company released two brand new flagships in the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge and it has also been pushing a number of Android 5.0 Lollipop updates to older devices.
We’ve seen the Galaxy S5 Lollipop update make solid progress. We’ve seen the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop updates push out to users all over the globe. The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop update has finished up in the United States. Even the Samsung Galaxy S4 Lollipop release has been gaining steam.
In particular, the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop release and Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop release have been picking up the pace as we push through the month of April toward the summer. We’ve seen a flurry of new updates roll out and we’ve seen several new release details arrive for owners of the current Galaxy Note flagships. Samsung’s been pushing updates rapid fire and we want to make sure that you’re caught up to speed as we move into a new month.
Today, we take a look at the progress of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update and the Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop update and outline the most recent and the most important details that’ve emerged in the past four weeks.
Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop Update Gaining Steam
Now that the T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update is out and available, the Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop release in the United States is complete. AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, U.S. Cellular, and Verizon have all pushed out updates for the Galaxy Note 4.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update is complete in the United States but there are plenty of users outside the United States that are still on Android 4.4.4 KitKat. That said, the company has made tremendous progress in the past few weeks as it looks to get all of its Galaxy Note 4 users upgraded to Lollipop.
In recent days, Samsung’s rolled out the Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update to users in Hungary, Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, Norway, Ireland, Czech Republic, Montenegro and the United Kingdom. And that’s just for the SM-N910F, one of the company’s international Galaxy Note 4 variants.
Samsung hasn’t said anything but with all of this progress, the Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update looks like it will make substantial progress in May. Owners of international Galaxy Note 4 models will want to keep an eye out for carrier-specific information. Samsung has a tendency to keep a low profile during its roll outs and specific information typically comes from carriers themselves.
Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop Update Doing the Same
The Samsung Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop update got off to an extremely slow start but over time, the update has picked up the pace and it’s now in line with Samsung’s Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop release.
In the United States, the Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop update is available to users on AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and U.S. Cellular. Samsung’s also made a big push to Galaxy Note Edge users outside the United States.
Over the past two weeks, the update has landed for users in United Arab Emirates, China, Hong Kong, Australia, Singapore, Poland, and the United Kingdom. That’s a ton of ground and the Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop update should continue to make up for lost time in May and June.
Missing Updates & Snags
There is only one Galaxy Note 4 Android 5.0 Lollipop update missing in the United States. The update? The Verizon Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop update. Verizon hasn’t confirmed plans to release the update though with the other variants now on Android Lollipop, it should only be a matter of time before Verizon gets the update out. A release in May is probable.
Verizon isn’t alone. A number of other international carriers still haven’t confirmed plans to upgrade the Galaxy Note 4, or Galaxy Note Edge, with Android 5.0 Lollipop. That doesn’t mean that they won’t offer the updates, it just means that they haven’t gotten them in for internal testing. Carriers typically start talking about updates once they enter testing behind the scenes.
The testing process can be extremely unpredictable and we’ve already seen the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop updates hit snags behind the scenes.
Australian carrier Vodafone says that testing on both updates failed and that it is now awaiting a new update from Samsung. It’s not clear how long this might take and it could be weeks before we see these two updates roll out. Vodafone isn’t the first carrier to encounter problems and it won’t be the last so Galaxy Note 4 and Note Edge users will need to remain patient as Samsung works out the kinks.
Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop Problems & Bug Fixes
Our experience with the Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update has been very good but that doesn’t mean that the update has been good for everyone.
We’ve been hearing about assorted Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop problems since February and we continue to get complaints about battery life, horrible performance, and other issues. Our friend Warner Crocker recently outlined his struggles with the T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update in particular and his struggles mirror those of other Galaxy Note 4 users.
It’s encouraging to see Samsung roll out bug fix updates for devices like the Galaxy S4. It means that we could see it roll out bug fixes for its Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge in the future.
Bug fix updates are unpredictable and random so Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge users will want to keep an eye and an ear out as we move from April to May. Those that can’t wait will want to take a look at our fixes for common Galaxy Note 4 problems.
Android 5.1 Lollipop
Samsung is working on an Android 5.1 Lollipop update. The update is all but confirmed for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge and there’s a good chance that it will roll out to devices like the Galaxy Note 4 down the road. While it’s not confirmed for the Galaxy Note 4 or Galaxy Note Edge, it’s an update worth paying attention to.
There’s a good chance that it will come with bug fixes for Lollipop problems. More importantly, it appears that Samsung is tacking on a Guest Mode feature that allows Galaxy users to setup several unique profiles. This is important for those that share their phone with their kids, family members or with friends and co-workers.
It’s not clear when Samsung plans to start pushing the update in force but we recommend keeping an eye out for details as we make a push towards the summer.
