LG G2 Android 5.0 Lollipop Update Wraps Up in the U.S. is a post by Cory Gunther from Gotta Be Mobile.
Back in August last year LG confirmed the G2 would see Android 5.0 Lollipop, and in December it first started arriving for owners outside of the United States. However, over the past two months both the LG G3 and the older LG G2 here in the US have receive updates, and this week one more is arriving for Sprint LG G2 owners.
At the end of March the Verizon LG G2 received Android 5.0 update, and other carriers have already pushed it out, leaving Sprint as one of the only major carriers yet to deliver the latest software by Google. This week though, it’s finally here and Sprint has officially confirmed its LG G2 variant will receive Android 5.0.2 Lollipop.

The LG G2 was LG’s first smartphone with buttons on the back, and it was rather popular when it arrived in late 2013 to take on the Galaxy S4 and other smartphones in its class. Lately we’ve been busy talking about the LG G3 updates, and the LG G4 set to be announced later today, but there are still millions of LG G2 owners waiting for the latest software. Read on for more details.
The LG G2 was released in September of 2013 and a few months later Google released Android 4.4 KitKat. The update took a long time to arrive, and eventually caused a lot of problems for LG G2 owners. It was plagued with little issues that slowly have been fixed, but many are still anxiously awaiting Android 5.0 to deliver new features, an improved look, and to fix some of the bugs introduced with Android 4.4.4 KitKat.
On Monday Sprint announced the LG G2 Android 5.0 update is finally reading and rolling out, making them the last major carrier to push Google’s newest software to the aging smartphone. Users an expect it to start arriving today, or over the course of the next week. All of the information and update details are explained in the link above, but sadly there is no changelog to go along with the announcement. That said, it’s likely the same experience as all other carrier variants, which have been receiving mixed reviews from owners.
Users can expect a flat and modern styled user interface with many tweaks and improvements delivered with Android 5.0 Lollipop. Some of those include better battery live, smooth performance, enhanced notifications and a new notification pulldown bar, better lockscreen options and lockscreen notifications, and more. Not to mention some of the animations and effects delivered by Google with Android Lollipop. We’ve yet to try it ourselves, but this should fix many of the key issues that Android 4.4 caused for LG G2 owners. The update will bring your device to Android 5.0.2 Lollipop, not the latest Android 5.1 released in March by Google.

Those with an LG G2 can head into settings > about phone > and check for updates manually, otherwise the update should arrive as an over the air update. It’s advised you update over WiFi, as the update is quite large, and the link above has a few details for owners before accepting the upgrade.
While this is good news for owners of the Sprint LG G2, we’ve also been hearing some bad news regarding the update. Some users reported improved performance and battery life, and an overall positive result, while others are riddled with problems and are flooding forums to mention problems and discuss their LG G2 Android 5.0 update complaints.
Sprint LG G2 owners should accept the update, as it will likely be forced at some point anyways, which is a complaints we’ve seen from some AT&T users. The update adds tons of new features from Lollipop, but the changelog doesn’t mention the app crashes, keyboard issues, and other problems mentioned in the link abobe.
We’ve gathered a list of LG G2 Android 5.0 Problems & Fixes for those looking to upgrade, or that have completed the update after receiving it this week and are experiencing problems. While most owners should enjoy the update, there is a possibility of app crashes, poor performance, lower battery life, and other complaints we’ve seen. We’d recommend backing up your device just in case, and following the steps above if you have problems. That said, head into settings and accept the update, as Android 5.0 Lollipop delivers tons of new features and improvements.
