5 Things MacBook Buyers Need to Know Today is a post by Josh Smith from Gotta Be Mobile.
It’s a tough time to be a MacBook buyer. It’s hard to find the sleek new MacBook in store, but you don’t need to wait weeks to get your new MacBook if you know where to buy it. We’ll also outline what you need to know to save with MacBook deals if you qualify.
Apple announced the new MacBook in March with the Apple Watch and started selling the MacBook on April 10th, but almost two weeks later it is still very hard to find the new MacBook without a long wait that is reminiscent of the Mac Pro release.

Here are tips and details that MacBook buyers need to know in April, if they want to get a Space Gray, Silver or Gold MacBook without a huge wait.
Best Buy MacBook in Stock
You can buy a MacBook at Best Buy and get it by Friday April 24th. That is way faster than the 4-6 week wait you’ll see if you try to by direct from Apple.
Best Buy sells all six MacBook models which covers two different MacBook specs and all three colors. You cannot buy any MacBook models in Best Buy stores yet, but you can order some online.
Best Buy currently offers the Silver and Space Gray MacBook with delivery options of Friday April 24th with express shipping. The Gold MacBook is backordered until May 14th.
Apple Store MacBook Wait Times
No Matter which MacBook you want to buy from Apple there is a long wait. Every model shows a four to six-week wait for the Apple Store.
If you want to buy from Apple instead of Best Buy, your best bet is to place an order now and get in line. If Apple is able to catch up or if local stores start getting stock in, you can always cancel and buy it where you see it.
MacBook Deals
There are not a wide variety of MacBook deals available because it is in such short supply and it is new. You won’t see any MacBook deals at Best Buy, but students and eBook publishers can save on a MacBook.
Apple offers a $50 off MacBook deal to students who order online. If you are a eBooks publisher with Apple you can also use one of your hardware discounts to save $130 on a MacBook. This is available if you publish books in iTunes Connect.
MacBook Setup Errors
Some users report that there are MacBook setup errors when turning on the machine for the first time and attempting to use the Setup Assistant.
If you see a spinning beach ball you are impacted by this problem. Apple says that after 30 minutes it will start to work, but you can also complete the process if you don’t connect to the Internet. Apple states,
“You can avoid this delay if you complete Setup Assistant without connecting to the Internet. When Setup Assistant prompts you to select your Wi-Fi network, click Continue without selecting a network.”
If you are stuck waiting you can restart and the Setup Assistant will appear again.
No MacBook In Stock at Apple Stores
At this point you cannot find the MacBook in stock at Apple Stores. While using the online stock checker tool, we could not locate any Apple Store with the MacBook in stock in Ohio or Michigan, San Francisco, Los Angeles or New York City.
We expect this will change in the coming weeks. You can go try out the new Macbook in Apple Stores, but for now it will be hard to find one in stock that you can buy.
