The Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition is extremely hard to find right now and it will remain scarce all the way up until its release on November 10th. With that in mind, we want to offer some tips to those of you still looking to buy the a Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition for PS4, Xbox One or PC.

Earlier this month, Bethesda confirmed a game that many people have been waiting for since 2008. That game is Fallout 4, a follow-up to 2008’s Fallout 3. The company used a massive press conference at E3 2015 in Los Angeles to confirm a slew of details ahead of its release and we have a read on many of the game’s key components.

We know that Fallout 4 will be set in Boston and that it will allow you to customize your own Vault Dweller before you take him or her into the wasteland. We know that there is deep customization for weapons and armor. We know that it will be out November 10th for PS4, Xbox One and PC. And we also know that there is a collectors edition that’s very hard to find ahead of the game’s release.

On stage, Bethesda confirmed a Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition, a $120 collectors edition that offers several goodies including a real-life Pip Boy. For the uneducated, the Pip Boy is a tool that the Vault Dweller uses to monitor things like inventory and radio stations. The Pip Boy coming with the collectors edition will allow you to monitor all of these things in Fallout 4, from your wrist, using a smartphone and an app.

Unsurprisingly, the Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition is popular and Bethesda is already dealing with stock shortages ahead of its release date in November. While plenty of people have put in an order, there are others that will want to try and find one in the months ahead.

With that in mind, we want to offer a few tips to those of you that already bought your copy of the Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition and those of you that want to find one before November.

Decide If You Need It Now

You probably won’t be able to go hands-on with a Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition until November and even then, it still might be extremely hard to find. So, our advice is to figure out if you need the collectors edition and the Pip Boy as soon as you possibly can.

We put together a few reasons why you might want to think about pre-ordering it or buying it if you get the chance though there are also some reasons why you might not want to invest any time or energy into the game.

For one, it’s expensive. While the regular game is $60, the Pip Boy Edition is $120. It will almost certainly command steeper price points at resellers now that it’s sold out. So, you’ll need to be absolutely sure that you want it before shelling out $120 or more for the special version of the game.

It’s also worth noting that you will still be able to use the Fallout 4 companion application on your smartphone without the Pip Boy. The Pip Boy just enhances the experience.

If You Can Find It, Buy It

If you know you want to it and you have the opportunity to buy it through a retailer like Amazon, GameStop, Best Buy, or Walmart at any time this year, you’ll want to buy it. $120 will probably be the cheapest you find this game all year.

Given the stock shortages, the only direction we see the price going is up. We’ve already seen absurd prices emerge on resellers like eBay. These prices will probably go even higher as interest in the game picks up as we get closer to the release date.

If you can find it for $120 or around $120 and you know that you want the Pip Boy Edition, you will want to jump on the offer. Don’t wait.

Keep Checking For Stock

Bethesda says that the game is sold out and that it won’t be making any more versions of the game ahead of its release in November. That said, Bethesda’s Pete Hines has stated that retailers can release their last inventory whenever and however they want.

If you head over to Now In Stock, you’ll notice that Walmart has had a few Fallout 4 Pip Boy Editions appear in its inventory. While those have been swooped up pretty quickly, it’s a sign that we could see periodic releases in the buildup to the game’s release date. Whether that’s extra stock or cancelled pre-orders, we can’t say, but we’d advise you to keep an eye out as the year progresses.

Who knows, maybe you’ll get lucky.

Monitor Reseller Pricing

You’ll also want to keep a close eye on reseller pricing. While we’ve seen exorbitant pricing at eBay, there’s always a chance that someone, somewhere, will have mercy in the months ahead.

Maybe someone has two pre-orders and they decide to sell their other one at face value. If that happens, you’ll want to be all over it. Problem is, you won’t know about the deal unless you’re checking sites on a semi-regular basis.

Checking places like eBay takes a few minutes at most and you might save yourself a lot of time and money if you periodically check in the days leading up to November.

Start Saving

If you want to wait until the release gets closer, until the release date itself or until after the release date to buy the Pip Boy Edition of the game, you’ll want to start saving your money right now.

Again, we don’t see the price dipping below the current $120 price point. Not now and not in the future. You’re going to have to shell out for this game one way or another so you’ll want to stash some money away to help make your future purchase a little bit easier on the wallet and bank account.

The Pip Boy Won’t Work With These Phones

If you own a large phone like the iPhone 6 Plus or Samsung Galaxy Note 4, note that the Pip Boy is not going to fit phones of that size.

Bethesda recently confirmed compatibility with the iPhone 6, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5, iPhone 4, iPhone 4s, Samsung Galaxy S5, and Samsung Galaxy S4. It notes that “using the customizable foam insert you should be able to fit most other popular smartphone devices.” In other words, if your phone is the same size as any of the phones listed there, you should be fine.

You should expect the Pip Boy Edition to fit the rumored iPhone 6s but not the rumored iPhone 6s Plus. It probably won’t fit the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 either. So, if you own a big phone or are planning on buying one this year, keep that in mind as we push towards the game’s release.

Don’t Expect Many Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition Deals

Do not expect to see retailers drop the price of this game before the release. If we see new stock emerge it will be sold for $120, no more and no less.

The only deal that we’ll probably see pre-release is the one that Best Buy is offering its Gamers Club Unlocked members. Gamers Club Unlocked members pay a fee and in turn, Best Buy knocks 20% off orders. That drops the price of the game down to a mere $95. Problem is, Best Buy’s sold out of the game.

Again, if you are planning to buy this game in the future, you’re probably going to need to pay quite a bit of coin.

Monitor Your Pre-Orders

Now some tips for those of you that already pre-ordered the Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition.

The first thing you’ll want to do is keep an eye on your pre-order throughout the year. This will become particularly important once we start getting closer to the game’s November 10th release date.

We expect Bethesda to honor all of its pre-orders but you just never know. Stock shortage or not, we almost always see some orders get fouled up before a game’s release date so you’ll want to be extremely vigilant.

We recommend documenting all of your important information, including order number, just in case something goes wrong in the weeks ahead.

Keep Your Information Updated

Keep your information up-to-date otherwise you could run into some problems with your pre-order.

For instance, if you cancel your credit card anytime between now and the game’s release, make sure that you update your pre-order to reflect that. If you change your address, make sure you update that too.

These are little things that people often forget when a game is out of sight. Out of sight, out of mind. Our advice is to make the change to your pre-order as soon as you possibly can.

Don’t Cancel

No-brainer but a tip nonetheless. If you already pre-ordered the game, you should not cancel your pre-order. If you do that, you may not be able to pre-order again and you could be looking at a hefty price for a new pre-order. That is, unless you’re able to miraculously track down a $120 pre-order ahead of the release date.

If you decide that you don’t want the game, you might want to check in at a place like the Fallout Reddit to see if someone wants to buy your pre-order/game from you. There are still plenty of people looking for this game and more than a few will be willing to pay $120 (or more) for the rights to the game.
