iOS 8.4 Release Time: What to Expect is a post by Adam Mills from Gotta Be Mobile.
The iOS 8.4 release date is getting closer which means that iPhone, iPad and iPod touch owners around the world are curious about the exact iOS 8.4 release time. Today, we want to take a look at some things we expect from the iOS 8.4 release time so that you don’t waste any time waiting for Apple’s next iOS 8 update.
In April, Apple confirmed its next version of iOS 8, an update that will follow in the footsteps of its iOS 8.3 software update. That update is iOS 8.4, an upgrade that’s focused on music and an upgrade that was one of the company’s announcements on stage at WWDC 2015 in early June.
The iOS 8.4 update was confirmed in April and again on stage at WWDC but it’s still without a concrete release date for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. We know that the software’s roll out is imminent but Apple hasn’t confirmed a specific date for the update’s release. It probably won’t.
Apple hasn’t confirmed an iOS 8.4 release date nor has it confirmed an iOS 8.4 release time. However, we have a pretty good idea about what to expect from the iOS 8.4 release time and date and today ahead of the unknown release date we want to take a look at a few things iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users should expect from Apple’s elusive iOS 8.4 release date and time.
iOS 8.4 Release Time for U.S.
If you’ve been through an iOS release before you probably have some idea about what to expect. If you just bought an iPhone or iPad for the first time though, here’s what you should expect from your first major iOS update.
In the United States, you can expect the iOS 8.4 release time to emerge sometime between 9AM PST and 10AM PST. Here’s how that breaks down for other parts of the United States.
- Eastern – 1 PM
- Central – 12 PM
- Mountain – 11 AM
Apple always releases its updates for everyone at the same time which means that we expect the update to immediately become available for everyone using iOS 8.
iOS 8.4 Release Time for Others
Apple doesn’t just release its updates for iOS users in the United States. When an update goes live, it goes live for everyone around the world so those of you outside of the United States should expect to see the update arrive at the exact same time. Here’s what others can expect from the iOS 8.4 release time:
- London – 6 PM
- Moscow – 9 PM
- New Dehli – 10:30 PM
- Shanghai – 1 AM
- Tokyo – 2 AM
- Melbourne – 3 AM
- Auckland – 5 AM
Again, Apple probably won’t confirm those times because it never confirms a release time for its iOS updates. This is when you’ll want to be looking at your phone or tablet though.
iOS 8.4 Release Date
You can expect the timing of the iOS 8.4 release date to occur sometime between today and Tuesday, June 30th.
June 30th is the confirmed Apple Music release date which means that iOS 8.4 needs to be out by then. Apple hasn’t relayed a specific date though we know it won’t arrive on Saturday or Sunday. Apple never rolls out iOS updates on the weekend so there’s little chance of that happening.
Instead, it should happen this week or on Monday or Tuesday. Many believe that it will roll out ahead of Apple Music’s June 30th release date though that remains unconfirmed.
iTunes and OTA
When the update arrives, you should expect it to become available on iTunes and Over-the-Air through the device’s settings page. We do not expect the iOS 8.4 update to require a ton of internal storage space to install Over-the-Air. Apple’s dramatically cut back on the amount of space needed to install OTA updates and we wouldn’t expect iOS 8.4 to requires tons of free space.
We would expect both methods, iTunes and OTA, to take a few minutes to complete. Installation times will vary based on device and internet connection. Typically, incremental iOS updates take less than 30 minutes to install and complete assuming we don’t see major issues impact Apple’s servers.
Initial Hiccups
We’d expect there to be a few initial hiccups around the iOS 8.4 release time and on the iOS 8.4 release date itself.
When iOS updates are trotted out on stage ahead of their release, we typically see those updates garner more interest than your standard incremental iOS update. So, we’d expect download times to get pushed in the immediate aftermath of the iOS 8.4 update’s release. We’d also expect those download times to settle about an hour after the update’s release.
We also wouldn’t be surprised if we saw some day one hiccups with Apple Music and Apple Music sign ups. Apple will be offering a three month trial for the service and we expect there to be a ton of people taking advantage of that on day one. Like the download issues, we’d expect these to settle down shortly after the iOS 8.4 release time.
